Jamie Lee Curtis might not be stepping back into the shoes of Laurie Strode again anytime soon, but the Oscar-winning actress is far from being done with the horror genre. Curtis will star in Sender, a psychological horror film based on the award-winning 2022 short film, shares Deadline.

Russell Goldman is set to direct the movie in his feature directorial debut. He previously directed the indie short Return to Sender, on which the film will be based, and then adapted his short into a 2023 Black List contender.

Sender is already in development. Apart from Curtis, the film stars Severance's Britt Lower, David Dastmalchian (Late Night with the Devil), and Anna Baryshnikov (Love Lies Bleeding).

It follows a woman entangled in a mysterious and dangerous e-commerce scam that quickly becomes very personal, leaving her determined to find out who the anonymous sender is and stop their harassment.

Return to Sender starred Allison Tolman as a recovering alcoholic who starts receiving deliveries for things she didn't order. The deliveries spiral out of control and are accompanied by online reviews that she's never written, causing her paranoia to increase as she tries to find out who is behind the scam.

Sender sounds like a timely story about the dangerous era of surveillance we're living in, something all of us can relate to in our current society and the ever-increasing dependence on technology. We live in a world where all our data is shared online, and almost every website and task requires an app or login to access it. Our tech is constantly monitoring us, and that anxiety could make for a taut and frighteningly realistic psychological thriller.

Curtis will produce the film for Comet Pictures, though it's unclear who she will play in the movie.

The actress shared a statement with Deadline: "I am so proud to be a part of Russell’s first movie, the first of many. The little seed that Comet Pictures planted has now grown into a feature filled with talented artists surrounding a new and exciting filmmaker.”

Sender is just one of several projects Curtis is working on. She will also star in the Freaky Friday sequel Freakier Friday releasing later this year, and most recently, she appeared in The Last Showgirl and Eli Roth's Borderlands. In 2022, Curtis won her first Academy Award for her work in Everything Everywhere All At Once.

Funnily enough, even though Curtis is known for playing one of the most iconic final girls of all time and has just signed onto another horror movie, she actually frightens easily and dislikes watching scary movies. During an interview with Silver Magazine, she said, "I scare easily. And I hate these movies, I loathe them, I do not like to be frightened."
