Part rom-com and part slasher movie, Heart Eyes, the latest horror movie from Screen Gems and Spyglass Media Group, is coming home to digital this week. The film will be available to rent or buy from digital retailers on March 4, just 25 days after it initially debuted in theaters.
To pre-order the film, you can head to Apple TV and do so for $24.99. The rental price isn't yet available, but usually it's $19.99 while the movie is still on PVOD (premium VOD).
Later, we expect the price to drop to a more affordable rental price of $5.99, but that doesn't usually happen until the film in question receives a physical release date. For Heart Eyes, that won't be until April 15. Amazon is currently listing the Blu-ray for $40.99 and the DVD for $34.99. If you pre-order, you'll get the pre-order price guarantee, meaning that if the price drops between now and the release date, you will get the lowest price offered.
Heart Eyes is still playing in some theaters, if you'd prefer to see the movie that way. Produced on a budget of approximately $18 million, Heart Eyes has done okay in theaters, grossing about $8.3 million during its opening weekend and a worldwide total of $31 million since then.
What is Heart Eyes about?
Ally (Olivia Holt) and Jay (Mason Gooding) are co-workers who get mistaken for a couple by a terrifying serial killer known as "Heart Eyes," a murderer who wears a creepy mask complete with glowing red heart-shaped eyes. Ally and Jay are spotted kissing, making them a target for the killer, who specifically targets couples on Valentine's Day.
Despite the fact they aren't actually a couple and the kiss was a misunderstanding, it puts them right in the killer's crosshairs and leads to a fast-paced comedy slasher film. Critics praised the film for its smart script and the fact it manages to master both of its genres, making for a gory horror film along with a sweet romance. Heart Eyes received an R rating for strong violence, gore, language, and some sexual content.
