Fandango has released the results for their 2025 Most Anticipated Fall Movies survey, along with the list of horror movies fans are the most excited to see this spooky season.
Fandango is the leading online movie ticketing system in the nation, and their survey is the result of seeking the input of over 2,000 ticket purchasers. For the purpose of the survey, films that will be opening from September through October were considered.
The most anticipated fall movies overall were:
- Tron: Ares
2. Mortal Kombat II
3. The Conjuring: Last Rites
4. Good Fortune
5. Black Phone 2
6. Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale
7. One Battle After Another
8. Spinal Tap II: The End Continues
9. A Big Bold Beautiful Journey
10. Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere
Shawn Robbins, Fandango’s Director of Analytics said: “From fan favorites Tron: Ares and Mortal Kombat II to horrors, comedies, thrillers, and dramas, there's no shortage of entertainment to grace the big screen in the coming months.”
Horror is hitting big this year, with films such as Bring Her Back and Weapons proving it’s a film genre that is here to stay. And both of these films were critically acclaimed as well! 82% of the Fandango survey respondents said that seeing a horror movie in a theater environment makes it a scarier and more immersive experience. That makes sense; watching a movie at home makes it easier to get distracted.

The Most anticipated horror movies on the Fandango survey are:
1. The Conjuring: Last Rites – Said to be the final chapter of The Conjuring franchise, Last Rites focuses on Ed and Lorraine Warren’s investigation of the Smurl family haunting in Pennsylvania.
2. The Black Phone 2 – The sequel to The Black Phone, based on the story by Joe Hill, sees much of the original cast return, as Finney and Gwen continue to be haunted by The Grabber.
3. The Long Walk – Based on the Stephen King novel (written under his pseudonym Richard Bachman), this story deals with teenage boys competing to see which of them can continuously walk the longest. Stragglers are killed.
4. Him – Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions produced this film, described as: “Terror strikes when a promising young football player gets invited to train at a team's isolated compound.”
5. The Strangers: Chapter 2 – When the murderous masked trio learns that one of their prior victims actually lived, they set out to change that outcome. Maya is in for a brutal fight when she encounters them.
For a fun secondary list, Fandango asked which sub-genre horror fans leaned towards, and those were:
1. Psychological Thrillers
2. Horror Comedies
3. Vampire Movies
4. Monster Movies
5. Haunted House/Object Movies
