We're at the end of 2024 and looking forward to everything horror-related coming out in 2025, but Hollywood is working hard at shaping the next several years for scary movies. Not only does 2025 have great films on the way, but we also have many to look forward to in 2026 already!
SOULM8TE
The sequel to M3GAN will be released in 2025, but Universal is already working to turn the films into a franchise. SOULM8TE arrives in January 2026 and is described as a sci-fi erotic thriller that will be written and directed by Kate Dolan and star Lily Sullivan (Evil Dead Rise).
Weapons
Not much is known about this upcoming film from Zach Cregger but given that Cregger is behind the successful and acclaimed horror movie Barbarian, horror fans are very eager to see what he does next. Weapons is being described as an epic horror film about a community disrupted by the disappearance of a group of kids. It stars Julia Garner, Benedict Wong, Josh Brolin, Austin Abrams, Alden Ehrenreich, and more. Weapons is currently set to release on January 16, 2026.
28 Years Later: The Bone Temple
Everyone has been talking about the new trailer for 28 Years Later, the first in a new trilogy that follows up on the post-apocalyptic classic 28 Days Later and its sequel 28 Weeks Later. Less than one year after the new movie releases in theaters during the summer of 2025, Sony is releasing its sequel, The Bone Temple, which will be directed by Nia DaCosta (Candyman). Little else is known about the project yet, though I'm sure that will change once we see 28 Years Later.
Scream 7
Despite all of the controversy surrounding this movie, it is moving forward and several cast members have been announced recently, including returning stars Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox as Sidney Prescott and Gale Weathers. Newcomers to the franchise include Mckenna Grace, Anna Camp, Isobel May, and Asa Germann. There are rumors that Spyglass Media is also looking ahead to developing an eighth film soon.
Mike Flanagan's reboot of The Exorcist
Not much has been revealed about Mike Flanagan's take on The Exorcist, but given the goodwill and acclaim that Flanagan has built throughout his career primarily making horror movies, it's easy to see why we're all so excited for his version. The most recent attempt at making a new movie in this world, The Exorcist: Believer, didn't go over well, so Flanagan has a chance to rectify that with his "radical" new take on the beloved series.
The Mummy
Atomic Monster and Blumhouse will produce a new take on the classic undead monster and it will be written and directed by Evil Dead Rise director Lee Cronin. This film isn't connected to the popular movies starring Brendan Fraser, as it seems like Cronin is really leaning into the horror angle here.
Clayface
Apparently 2026 is going to be a great year for Mike Flanagan, since along with his highly-anticipated reboot of The Exorcist, we'll also get to see his take on Clayface. Flanagan has been eying a Clayface movie for years now and he's finally getting the chance to write the script for one. He has previously said he wants to make it into a horror tragedy.
Him
The words "sports horror movie" certainly piqued my interest along with the fact that Him is from Jordan Peele's production company Monkeypaw. All we know so far is that Him is focused on a legendary athlete about to retire, so he trains with some up-and-coming talent. The film will star
Marlon Wayans, Tyriq Withers, and Julia Fox.
