Shudder is no stranger to original series. The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs, Creepshow, Cursed Films, The Creep Tapes, Queer for Fear: The History of Queer Horror, The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula, seasons four and five of Slasher…all of these series have been big successes for the horror streaming platform. Now Shudder is preparing to debut a brand new series, and it’s something a bit different from what we have seen before.
Guts & Glory is an unscripted competition show with a horror twist, coming to us from Greg Nicotero. Nicoero is a renowned special effects artist who has worked on such iconic horror projects as The People Under the Stairs, Army of Darkness, From Dusk till Dawn, Scream, and of course every series in The Walking Dead universe. He was trained by special effects’ master Tom Savini, and worked with George R. Romero on Day of the Dead.
Nicotero himself announced Guts & Glory at San Diego Comic-Con during AMC Networks’ panel for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon (Nicotero is an executive producer for that very popular series).
What's the premise of Guts & Glory?
Guts & Glory will place its competitors into a very challenging immersive horror competition that combines horror and survival. The players will be “confronted with their fears in various scenarios.”
Brian Witten of Monster Agency Productions, Chris Wagner of White Label and Andrew Molina of Salaryman will join Nicotera as executive producers. Jeffrey F. January is co-executive producer.

Guts & Glory will make its debut as part of Shudder 10, Shudder’s 10-year anniversary celebration. The two-episode series premiere will air on Tuesday, September 9 on both Shudder and AMC+ in the US and Canada. The remaining four episodes will premiere weekly on Tuesdays.
Shudder had a very successful year in 2024, when it dominated Rotten Tomatoes’ list of top ten horror movies. Six of those films belonged to Shudder, including Oddity, Infested and Late Night with the Devil, which claimed the number one spot.
In 2025, Shudder continued their winning streak with The Ugly Stepsister, The Rule of Jenny Pen and Frewaka. With Halloween on its way, it will be interesting to see what other surprises Shudder rolls out for us. Shudder 10 is described as “the service’s most terrifyingly ambitious slate to date”, with new films, nationwide screenings, special fan events and custom merchandise.
And speaking of Halloween, Shudder’s annual celebration of the holiday should be heading our way in September, so keep your eyes on 1428 Elm for the upcoming schedule!
