With another weekend approaching, it's time to figure out what you're going to watch while you're busy relaxing! If you need a break from the heat, there are some great horror movies now available to stream on services like Netflix, Shudder, and Max. Many newer horror movies have been added to streaming recently, so if you missed some things in theaters you'll be able to catch up soon.
The following list highlights five horror movies that would make a fun watch this weekend, including a 2025 slasher rom-com, a horror comedy on Max, and a couple of new releases on Shudder.

Heart Eyes (Netflix)
Netflix recently added this romantic comedy/slasher movie to its catalog after it released in theaters this past February. Heart Eyes does both genres equally well, providing a charismatic couple to root for along with plenty of over-the-top blood and guts for those craving an entertaining slasher.
The plot revolves around a pair of co-workers played by Olivia Holt (Totally Killer) and Mason Gooding (Scream VI) who are mistaken for a couple by a killer who exclusively hunts and kills couples. Chaos ensues.

The Parenting (Max)
Family movie night? Unsure of what to watch? Look no further than this endearing horror comedy film about an evil poltergeist ruining a vacation. When a young couple invite their respective parents to a weekend getaway, their biggest fears are that not everyone will get along.
But once they arrive, they quickly learn that they will soon have much scarier concerns as a centuries-old entity makes its presence known in spectacular fashion. Featuring a great cast of actors like Edie Falco, Brian Cox, and Lisa Kudrow, The Parenting is tons of fun from start to finish.

The Ugly Stepsister (Shudder)
This twisted Cinderella reimagining has become one of the most talked-about movies of the year already. A Norwegian film that marks the feature directorial debut of Emilie Blichfeldt, The Ugly Stepsister is sure to make you laugh, and possibly vomit.
If you enjoy body horror films, especially female-focused ones like The Substance, then this movie should be at the top of your watchlist. It only received a limited release in theaters earlier this year and now that it's streaming on Shudder it has become more accessible to plenty more people.

Fréwaka (Shudder)
Fréwaka is an Irish folk horror film that flew under the radar upon its release earlier this year. There's a good chance you missed out on this one if you didn't realize it was streaming on Shudder. It follows a nursing student working with a reclusive woman living in a remote Irish village. At first, Shoo is unsure why her patient, Peig, is so fearful, but when she learns about her experiences in an asylum she begins to understand and Peig's paranoia starts to infect Shoo, too.
Carrie (Max)
Carrie is a classic horror movie and one of the best Stephen King adaptations ever made. Since it is currently streaming on Max, now is a great time to revisit it, also because the upcoming Netflix film Fear Street: Prom Queen, premiering on Friday, May 23, pays homage to the 1976 film, making now an opportune moment to refresh your memory before checking out the latest Fear Street. The Netflix slasher will also include references to Prom Night and other popular slashers.
