Tubi is jumping into 2025 with both feet, adding even more horror and thrillers to their huge catalogue of movies that you can watch for free. Because they are ad-supported, you do have to watch commercials, but did I say Tubi is FREE?
Here is what Tubi has for us in January:
Brainscan – This 1994 film stars Edward Furlong as a teenager named Michael, who loves computer games. When he plays a new game that puts the player in the POV of a killer, things get a little too real.
Carrie (1976) – Based on Stephen King’s first novel Carrie, this excellent horror film tells the story of a bullied teenage girl who discovers she has the power of telekinesis. Carrie snaps when the bullying goes to far at the high school prom, and there is hell to pay.
Censor – This was one of my favorite horror movies of 2021. Set in 1980’s England during the Video Nasty period, it introduces us to Enid, whose job is to review sensational films and approve or disapprove them. Her mental health takes a hit when her parents tell her they are declaring her sister, who disappeared as a child, legally dead. Shortly after, Enid becomes convinced that an actress who appeared in a violent film she reviewed is actually her sister.
Happy Birthday To Me – Released in 1981, Happy Birthday to Me stars Little House on the Prairie’s Melissa Sue Anderson as teenager Ginny, who may or may not be murdering her classmates.
Haunting In Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia – In this sequel, a family moves into a house in Georgia. Soon after, supernatural events begin, likely because of the house’s past as part of the Underground Railroad.
Separation – Little Jenny (Violet McGraw of The Haunting of Hill House series) loses her mother and seeks solace in the puppets her artist father makes. Oh, and she also regularly communicates with the ghost of her mother.
Swallowed – Friends Benjamin and Dom agree to a drug run to make some extra cash by smuggling “drugs” encased in condoms which they are forced to swallow. Turns out there is something much more sinister and deadly encased in the condoms.
Iconic horror movie The Blob is included on Tubi's January roster
The Blob (1958) – When a deadly alien crashes near two small towns in Pennsylvania, it is encased in a meteorite. Luckless residents break the meteorite open, and the gelatinous creature begins to consume everyone in its path.
The Cabin In The Woods – Drew Goddard and Joss Whedon, who worked together on Buffy the Vampire Slayer created this unique, clever horror movie, which uses nearly every horror trope you have seen onscreen to excellent effect.
The Crazies (2010) – In this remake, a town is affected by a biological agent that causes its victims to change into violent killers. Timothy Olyphant stars as the town sheriff, determined to save his pregnant wife.
The Fog (2005) – In this completely unnecessary remake, a mysterious fog bank rolls into Antonio Island, off the coast of Oregon. Secreted within the fog are the spirits of mariners who were robbed and killed on their ship 134 years earlier.
The Grudge (2019) – A reboot of 2002’s Ju-On and its 2004 American remake, this film is presented in a nonlinear format. It tells several different stories involving the same house – a house that is haunted by a vengeful, murderous spirit.
The Haunting In Connecticut – Based on a supposedly true story, we are introduced to the Campbell family. The Campbells move into a large house that the realtor is way too eager to rent them so they can be closer to the hospital where their son Matt is being treated for cancer. Spoiler alert! The place used to be a mortuary, and is haunted.
Urban Legend – Alicia Witt, Rebecca Gayheart, Tara Reid and Jared Leto star in this one, which a killer targets the students at a college campus. The manner of each murder involves urban legends such as the man with a hook for a hand.
Wind Chill – Emily Blunt stars in Wind Chill as a college student who ride shares with another student in order to go home for Christmas. As the two travel together in the freezing weather, terrifying things begin to happen.
