A new slasher is now playing in theaters, and it's a must-watch for fans of the Scream franchise. Produced by the same team behind the latest Scream films, Heart Eyes introduces a chilling new serial killer who preys on couples on what should be the most romantic day of the year—Valentine's Day.

Known as the Heart Eyes killer, the masked assailant has carried out multiple killing sprees over two years and has now arrived in Seattle. After mistaking two co-workers, Ally and Jay, for a couple, the killer begins targeting them, setting off a deadly game of cat and mouse.

Spoilers from Heart Eyes ahead!

As the slasher reaches its end, the serial killer problem seems to be solved, and Ally and Jay are about to embark on the next big step in their relationship. But then there's a post-credits scene at the end of the movie that throws everything into question. Just when Ally and Jay think they can finally breathe easy, the post-credits scene sets up a terrifying possibility that the nightmare isn't over.

What happens in the Heart Eyes post-credits scene?

Ally and Jay believed the serial killer threat was behind them after uncovering the Heart Eyes killer's identity and ending their reign of terror. A year later, they're officially a couple, and to celebrate their anniversary, they return to the same drive-in where the masked killer had gone on another spree while hunting them down. During their visit, Jay asks Ally to move in with him, but Ally surprises him by rejecting his offer and instead proposing to him. Of course, Jay accepts the proposal, and now they're officially engaged.

Then comes the post-credits scene. Ally receives a mysterious phone call, starting with a cryptic voice on the other end that strangely resembles the voice modifier used by the Heart Eyes killer earlier in the film. However, the caller turns out to be Ally's best friend, Monica, who’s just playing a prank. It’s revealed that Monica is actually at the same drive-in theater, snapping pictures of Ally and Jay’s engagement from afar. While the conversation starts off lighthearted, things take a darker turn when the call abruptly ends. Oh no! This is similar to what happened at the beginning of the film. Do you remember?

At the start of the movie, a couple gets engaged, and a photographer is supposed to capture the moment. However, the photographer accidentally misses the key moment when the man proposes to the woman. As the couple prepares to redo the proposal for the photographer, the Heart Eyes killer appears, murdering the photographer before eventually killing the couple.

With the phone call suddenly cut off, could Monica have been killed? While it’s clear the original Heart Eyes killers are dead, that doesn’t rule out the possibility of a copycat emerging, and it looks like Monica will be their first victim. Perhaps the writers added this post-credits scene as a teaser for a possible sequel, hinting that Heart Eyes terror is far from over. Or, it could simply serve as a chilling final note. Whether it’s a teaser for a sequel or just a haunting final twist, this post-credits scene ensures that the story of the Heart Eyes killer isn’t easily forgotten.

Heart Eyes is now playing in theaters everywhere.
