James Wan announces filming has started on final The Conjuring film: 'End of an era'

One of the most iconic on-screen horror couples of the past decade is about to make their final appearance in the upcoming film The Conjuring: Last Rites. Director James Wan recently took to his Instagram page, @creepypuppet, to share a post signaling the official start of filming for the fourth and final film in the main series.
The photo shows chairs for Ed and Lorraine Warren, the infamous demonologists based on the real couple of the same name. Within The Conjuring Universe, Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson have played them in all three main films, starting with the 2013 film, along with making appearances in a few others, such as Annabelle Comes Home.
His message is pretty simple, just confirming that filming has gotten underway and the fourth film will indeed be titled The Conjuring: Last Rites. Currently, Warner Bros. Pictures has scheduled it to be released theatrically on September 5, 2025.
No plot details have been confirmed for Last Rites yet, but we do know that this movie will be directed by Michael Chaves, who previously directed the previous film The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It as well as other movies in the cinematic universe like The Nun II and The Curse of La Llorona. David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, Ian Goldberg, and Richard Naing co-wrote the screenplay, which is based on a story by Wan and Johnson-McGoldrick. Wan also produces alongside Peter Safran.
Besides Farmiga and Wilson, Deadline previously reported that the final film would star Mia Tomlinson as Ed and Lorraine's daughter, Judy Warren, and Ben Hardy as her husband, Tony Spera. Hardy is best known for playing Roger Taylor in Bohemian Rhapsody and Oliver in the Netflix film Love at First Sight.
Tomlinson is an up-and-coming actress. Her previous credits include the Netflix series The Lost Pirate Kingdom and the Britbox show The Beast Must Die.
