I Saw the TV Glow writer and director Jane Schoenbrun has announced their next feature film, a slasher flick titled Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma (via The Hollywood Reporter) starring Hannah Einbinder of Hacks fame and Gillian Anderson.
A24 distributed I Saw the TV Glow in 2024, but The Substance distributor Mubi has snagged the rights to their next film.
With a title like Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, Schoenbrun certainly has my interest piqued. They describe the movie as their "best attempt at the 'sleepover classic': an insane yet cozy midnight odyssey that beckons to unsuspecting viewers from the horror section at the local video store."
Set at a sleepaway camp, the film's plot was shared by The New Yorker earlier this year. It's about a queer filmmaker who is hired to direct the latest installment in a popular slasher film series. Wanting to cast the original 'final girl,' the filmmaker soon becomes obsessed with the leading lady "and the two women descend into a frenzy of psychosexual mania." Sign me up!
On X, Anderson cheekily poked fun at Einbinder's complicated relationship with Jean Smart in the hilarious dark comedy series Hacks. One of the most compelling aspects of that show is the twisted and often toxic dynamic between Einbinder's character Ava Daniels and Smart's Deborah Vance. Anderson didn't want to miss out.
Couldn’t let Jean Smart have all the fun 🤪 https://t.co/mokYYQ3sbP

Ahead of the upcoming film, Anderson can be seen in the British biographical drama The Salt Path. She also recently said she might be open to returning as her iconic character Dana Scully for a reboot of The X-Files from Sinners director Ryan Coogler. Einbinder is currently starring on Hacks, which is in the middle of airing its fourth season on Max.
Public Access Afterworld will complete Schoenbrun's screen trilogy
Schoenbrun previously talked to Variety about their "so-called screen trilogy," which currently includes their debut film We're All Going to the World's Fair and the acclaimed A24 film I Saw the TV Glow.
On the heels of announcing their latest film, Schoenbrun also took to X (formerly Twitter) to clarify that Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma is not part of the screen trilogy. Rather, the final film in that collection will be one called Public Access Afterworld.
The last part of my so-called screen trilogy is PUBLIC ACCESS AFTERWORLD. This is a separate thing but don’t worry there’s a screen or two in this one also hehe https://t.co/BAmGnMDFNm

The "Screen Trilogy" hinges on introspection into the world of screens, whether they be television or computer screens. In We're All Going to the World's Fair, the main character, Casey, gets sucked into a dangerous online challenge, while I Saw the TV Glow revolves around two teenagers and their love for a cult television show.
We can probably safely assume that Public Access Afterworld will have something to do with public access television.
