Last November, the internet was set ablaze when word broke that Lady Gaga would be joining the season 2 cast of Netflix’s hit series Wednesday.
Outside of announcing she would be joining the case, next to no information was provided regarding Gaga’s role on the show with a lot of question marks surrounding her casting. Who could she be playing? Exactly what type of role in the season might she have? How many episodes might she appear in?
All of these questions remain unanswered as Netflix is keeping fans in the dark regarding Gaga’s role in Wednesday season 2; however, in a new interview, series star Jenna Ortega has seemingly hinted that Gaga’s role in the forthcoming season might be more of a cameo than a major role in the show’s ensemble.
Speaking with Film Updates, Ortega reflected on the opportunity to collaborate with Gaga. While Ortega did not give away any spoilers or hints as to who Gaga might be playing in season 2, the way she spoke about working with Gaga seemed to suggest she might have a very minimal role in Wednesday.
“Tim [Burton] and I just really had a great time getting to know her. The scene, it was weird. She was kind go like a pipe dream. Like we didn’t really think that something like that could ever happen. So we were just very grateful and appreciative,” Ortega shared.
Jenna Ortega tells us what it was like working with Lady Gaga on ‘WEDNESDAY’ season 2:

While it might not seem like anything, it’s interesting that Ortega referred to “the scene” when speaking about working with Gaga. The choice of words seems to suggest that perhaps Gaga is not about to appear in a recurring or guest capacity, but rather makes a cameo within the season appearing in a scene with Wednesday. After all, it seems unlikely Ortega would say “the scene was weird” if she worked with Gaga in a larger capacity within the season or even within multiple scenes within a single episode.
Even if Gaga does only appear in Wednesday season 2 via a cameo, it doesn’t make us any less excited to see who she’ll be playing or how exactly she’ll pop up within the episode. Honestly, it sort of makes us that much more curious to know what exactly Burton and the creative team have cooked up for her appearance in the show.
The good news is that we won’t have to wait too much longer to find out who exactly Gaga will play in the show. After what has felt like an endless wait, Wednesday season 2 has been confirmed to release on Netflix sometime this year, the question remains when.
Given how big the show’s first season was, we imagine Netlifx is going to want to give season 2 a prime release date and we wouldn’t be shocked if the show landed a release date around a major holiday. It’d also make sense to hold the show for October as a potential Halloween release during a month when viewers are always looking for new horror content to enjoy.
