Kelly Marie Tran is a motivational speaker with a serious problem in the new trailer for Hulu's Original horror movie Control Freak, about a woman contending with a dangerous parasitic demon from her homeland.
The trailer teases that Tran's character, Valerie, is seemingly well-respected and quite popular in her field. Clips show her giving speeches on camera and working with a team to keep her looking and feeling her best. But then we see that Val is struggling with something as she continuously scratches her scalp, to the point that her husband starts to notice and question if she should get it checked out.
From there, the Control Freak trailer shows snippets of what looks like a horrifying experience for Val as she tries to battle this creepy crawler inside of her head. Based on the official key art for the movie (as shown below) whatever has taken up habitat inside Val's head is insect-like in nature. Ick.
Control Freak was directed and written by Shal Ngo, best known for titles like The Box and The Last Fisherman. His latest movie is described as a "terrifying journey."
Hulu has released several horror movies recently, such as last year's Mr. Crockett and Carved, both of which were feature-length versions of previous short films. The same is true for Control Freak. Ngo based the movie on 2021 short film "Control" that he previously made for Hulu's Bite Size Halloween.
Female body horror has been a popular recent trend in horror movies, understandably given the political state of the world right now. Control Freak joins the ranks of other hits like The Substance and the upcoming Shudder release The Ugly Stepsister.
Actress Kelly Marie Tran is best known for her roles in movies like Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi and Raya and the Last Dragon. She's joined by Miles Robbin, who plays her husband Robbie.

Control Freak starts streaming exclusively on March 13 on Hulu.
