Killer Cakes spoilers: Which team takes home the Golden Knife?
By Mads Lennon
Food Network fans would be remiss to skip Killer Cakes, a two-part Halloween special from Blumhouse Television now streaming on Amazon.
The new series challenges eight bakers to create gruesome and terrifying cakes while working alongside Hollywood special effects artists to make genuine jump scares to startle the judges. Scream star Matthew Lillard hosts, and scream queen Danielle Harris is one of the judges alongside experimental food artist Nikk Alcaraz. Both parts of Killer Cakes are now streaming.
Below, we're highlighting where you can follow the eight bakers on Instagram (if available) and reveal who wins the two-part competition.

Major spoilers ahead for Killer Cakes
Which team wins the first challenge?
For the first challenge, the eight bakers (divided into four duos) must create a cake encompassing their unique interpretation of a horror movie killer. Each cake must "come alive" before the judges and bleed or ooze in some capacity. The teams are also instructed to create a weapon the judges can use to "kill" the cake.
- Amanda & Dziedra: Killer trapped in a chest freezer after falling inside with his victims, they make a hatchet to break the lock; Taste: Brown sugar bourbon cake with raspberry peach coulis
- Mark & Jesse: Skinsuit killer strapped to an electric chair that sparks and fries him, weapon is a flaying knife to stab him; Taste: Chocolate roulade cake with smoked with chocolate and caramel mousse, plus some honeycomb filler
- Dill & Dee: Slaughterhouse killer, a pig's head on a human body with a circle saw inside to cut through his guts, weapon is a meat hook; Taste: Peanut butter and bacon cake with chocolate ganache icing
- Shanelle & Ezster: A killer siren luring sailors to their deaths, weapon is a harpoon; Taste: Coconut cake with salted caramel, pineapple filling with some mango boba
The winners of the first challenge are Mark and Jesse. The judges are impressed with the special effects and the work that went into creating their skinsuit killer and electric chair.
Unfortunately, the bottom two are Shanelle/Ezster and Amanda/Dziedra. The judges send Amanda/Dzeidra home because they felt as if their icebox killer felt too unfinished and the special effects were minimal.
And the winner is...
In the second episode and the final round of the competition, Lillard informs the remaining six bakers (three teams) that their next assignment is constructing a possessed cake. The cake has to include some form of possession and must vomit.
- Dill & Dee: They create a contorted patient who gets possessed and eats a kid; Taste: Sour apple cake with vanilla buttercream and the vomit is an apple-y side sauce
- Shanelle & Ezster: Swamp witch in the bayou performing a ritual to gain the power of an alligator she sacrificed, cool pulsing heart that shoots blood; Taste: Black cocoa chocolate cake with spicy raspberry filling and pistachio buttercream
- Mark & Jesse: Timmy's giant possessed birthday cake comes to life with moving eyes and hands, this one has the best vomit of all in that it actually shoots out and hits Nikk in the face; Taste: Cake is coconut with chili lime salt, coconut curd, and mango filling
Shanelle and Ezster are eliminated first, as the judges felt their witch wasn't proportional and didn't quite reach the level of the other two cakes.
The winners are Dill and Dee. They are awarded the Golden Knife trophy and $20,000. I'm disappointed in the decision because I thought Mark and Jesse's cake was much better. Cleaner, with gorgeous detail work and a better story. Plus, the special effects were far superior to the little dribble that came spilling out of Dill and Dee's cake.
Killer Cakes is now streaming on Prime Video.
