An interesting new rumor from insider Jeff Sneider suggests that actress Linda Cardellini might be in final talks to play Pamela Voorhees in the upcoming Friday the 13th prequel series Crystal Lake.
According to the report from TheInSneider, Cardellini is close to closing a deal to play the mother of the iconic slasher villain Jason Voorhees. As Friday the 13th viewers know, it was Pamela who put the entire plot of the story into motion as she was the real antagonist of the original 1980 film. The character was originated by Betsy Palmer, who passed away in May 2015.
Cardellini is best known for playing Velma in the live-action Scooby-Doo films along with her voice-acting work and her role as Laura Barton in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She also starred in the Emmy-nominated Netflix series Dead to Me and the more recent No Good Deed. Some of her other notable acting jobs include Freaks and Geeks, Mad Men, ER, Bloodline, and Legally Blonde.
She hasn't done as many horror projects, though she did star in The Curse of La Llorona, a film technically set within The Conjuring universe. It would be exciting to see her taking a role as dark as Pamela Voorhees.
Peacock's Crystal Lake series has been in the works for a while now. The show was originally going to be helmed by executive producers Bryan Fuller and Victor Miller, but Fuller was reportedly later fired from the project and Peacock redeveloped it from the ground-up. The new showrunner is Brad Caleb Kane, who also developed the It prequel series Welcome to Derry for HBO.
Crystal Lake reportedly started filming at the end of last year. Friday the 13th creator Sean S. Cunningham via Bloody Disgusting that the series would be on track for a Halloween 2025 debut. Crystal Lake will be produced by A24, who reportedly felt that Fuller's version of the show was "too dark," which led to the eventual change in a new direction and the hiring of Kane.
