March is looking like it's going to be a good one for anyone who enjoys crime dramas. Between Peacock's new series Long Bright River and the Paramount+ series Happy Face (about the Happy Face killer), there are several riveting shows to look forward to binge-watching next month.
Long Bright River is an adaptation of Liz Moore's bestselling novel about two sisters and the very different lives they lead. Emmy-winning actress Amanda Seyfried stars as Mickey, a beat cop who patrols a struggling Philadelphia neighborhood hit hard by the ongoing opioid crisis. When the bodies of three women turn up murdered, Mickey seems to be the only person who really cares about trying to solve this case and finding out if her sister, Casey (Ashleigh Cummings), might be in trouble.
The official trailer for Long Bright River teases that Casey has been missing for a while, longer than usual, indicating that she could be the next victim if someone doesn't put a stop to whoever is behind these murders ASAP. But since Mickey is only a patrol cop and not a detective, she's limited in her resources. The one advantage she has is that her personal history could be directly related to the case.
All eight episodes of the Peacock limited series will be released at the same time on Thursday, March 13. Nikki Toscano (The Offer) acted as showrunner for the series, in addition to writing and executive producing. She also directed the sixth episode. Author Liz Moore worked on the show, too, as a writer and executive producer.
In addition to starring, Seyfried executive produces. Long Bright River marks her latest leading television role after starring in the Apple TV+ miniseries The Crowded Room and the Hulu Original series The Dropout, where she played Elizabeth Holmes—the role for which she won her Emmy.
Other cast members include Ashleigh Cummings (NOS4A2), Nicholas Pinnock (Hedda), John Doman (The Affair), and Callum Vinson.
Long Bright River premieres with all eight episodes on March 13, exclusively on Peacock.
