Back in late September 2024, 20th Century Studios announced that it would be remaking the 1992 thriller classic The Hand That Rocks the Cradle with Longlegs actress Maika Monroe leading the cast. Now, we've just learned of a potential new cast addition. Scream queen Mary Elizabeth Winstead is reportedly in talks to join the remake, starring opposite Monroe.

Conversations are currently being had about Winstead joining the movie, but she has not officially signed on yet. Fingers crossed, an official agreement is reached because we would love to see her and fellow scream queen Maika Monroe act together, especially after knowing who they will be playing in the movie.

Winstead is best known for starring in movies such as Final Destination 3, Death Proof, Black Christmas, Live Free or Die Hard, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, The Spectacular Now, 10 Cloverfield Lane, Birds of Prey and Kate. She also had roles in the TV shows Wolf Lake, The Returned, Fargo and Ahsoka. Her most recent role was starring as Anna Urbanova in the historical drama series A Gentleman in Moscow. Of course, we're hoping to see her next in the The Hand that Rocks the Cradle remake.

The original 1992 film centered around a troubled woman named Mrs. Mott, who seeks revenge on a family after her life falls apart. Mrs. Mott was living a seemingly blissful life with her obstetrician husband until said husband committed suicide after being accused of sexually molesting his patients. She loses everything after he passes away, and all the stress leads to her suffering a miscarriage.

One day, she comes across a story about the first woman who accused her late husband of sexual misconduct, Claire Bartel. Blaming Claire for her misfortunes, she decides to pose as a nanny for the Bartel family, with her ultimate goal being to destroy Claire's life and take her place in the family. Rebecca De Mornay portrayed the role of Mrs. Mott, while Annabella Sciorra played Claire Bartel.

Michelle Garza Cervera (Huesera: The Bone Woman) is signed on to helm The Hand that Rocks the Cradle remake, with Micah Bloomberg (Sanctuary, Homecoming) writing the script. Monroe will play the role of Mrs. Mott, and Winstead will play Claire Bartel if she is cast.

Ted Field will produce the remake via his Radar Pictures. In addition, Michael Schaefer and Mike Larocca will produce through their Department M production studio.
