Scream star Matthew Lillard is considering a role in the upcoming Carrie television series in development from Mike Flanagan for Amazon.

Deadline reports that the star has been considering teaming up with Flanagan again for the show, which is based on Stephen King's iconic horror novel. Lillard has previously worked with Flanagan on The Life of Chuck, an acclaimed film based on a King novella that will premiere this June. Flanagan frequently works with actors more than once, so this casting would make sense.

Per the outlet, there hasn't been any update on who Lillard would be playing in the series, but there aren't that many adult male options in the story. It seems likely that he would play the school's principal or maybe a teacher. Either way, I'm guessing Lillard's part will be somewhat small since Carrie's biggest parts are dedicated to Carrie herself, her mother, Carrie's teen tormentors, and Miss Collins.

Amazon just recently officially ordered Carrie to series and we already learned about two casting announcements, with Summer H. Howell (Time Cut) playing the title role and Siena Agudong (Resident Evil) cast as Sue Snell.

Flanagan is the show's writer, executive producer, and showrunner. He will also direct a few episodes of the series, which follows the shy and outcast teenager Carrie White. At home, Carrie faces constant abuse from her fanatical mother Margaret, while at school she is often teased and ostracized by her classmates. When Carrie's telekinetic powers manifest, she finally has the chance to seek revenge against all of those who have wronged her.

This will be the third time someone has remade Carrie since the 2002 made-for-TV movie and the 2013 film starring Chloƫ Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore. It's hard to imagine anyone topping Brian de Palma's masterpiece and Sissy Spacek's iconic performance, but if anyone can bring something new to the story and revitalize it for the modern era, it's Flanagan. He's no stranger to adapting King's works.

As for Lillard, the actor has continued to act in horror projects consistently throughout the years, most notably in the recent hit Five Nights at Freddy's and past roles in Scream, Scooby-Doo, and Thirteen Ghosts. It was previously announced that the actor would return for Scream 7 and reprise his role as Stu Macher, one of the original Ghostface killers, though it's unclear how that's going to work out since his character died in the first movie. He will also reprise his role of William Afton in Five Nights at Freddy's 2 later this year.
