Max's newest adult animated DC series, Creature Commandos, will continue for another season, joining the long-running series Harley Quinn, which will return with its fifth season in January 2025.

Creature Commandos is the first official project in the new DC universe being constructed by James Gunn, the co-chairman of DC Studios. The project was the first to be ready for air and will be followed by next summer's Superman starring David Corenswet in the title role.

Premiering on December 13 with two episodes, the animated series is a little over halfway through its first season run. Three episodes remain this season, with the finale scheduled for January 9, 2025. Throughout its first season, Creature Commandos has garnered positive reception from critics and fans alike, making the debut of Gunn's DC Studios a promising start for what is ahead.

The series introduces characters like Circe, The Bride, Rick Flag Sr., and Doctor Phosphorus, along with featuring the return of Viola Davis as Amanda Waller. Some of the actors voicing characters in the show are expected to play the live-action versions of the characters as well in future projects.

Speaking on the recent renewal news co-chairs Gunn and Peter Safran expressed their gratitude toward Max and "the record-breaking launch of Creature Commandos," noting that the streamer "has consistently delivered above industry expectations and beyond our wildest imaginings."

Creature Commandos season 1 has been about setting up Waller's new team, this time comprised entirely of monsters due to Congress shutting down her old Task Force X program at the end of Peacemaker's first season.

Max also recently aired the popular and acclaimed series The Penguin, a follow-up to Matt Reeves' The Batman starring Robert Pattinson. But The Penguin is not technically set in the official DCU canon and is instead part of what's known as DC's "Elseworlds." That said, when Peacemaker returns for its second season, that will remain part of Gunn's DCU.

It was also recently revealed that Mike Flanagan would write the script for a Clayface movie.
