Mayfair Witches teases a darker season 2 in an enchanting new trailer

Lasher's been born and the dark cloud continues to hover over the Mayfair family in the bewitching trailer for Anne Rice's Mayfair Witches season 2, premiering on January 5 exclusively on AMC and AMC+.

Picking up where we left off at the end of the first season's shocking finale, the second season will follow Rowan Mayfair (Alexandra Daddario) now that she's given birth to the demonic entity haunting her family known as Lasher (Jack Huston). The show has teased just how powerful Rowan is and she will likely have to put her abilities to the test—against her own son. The trailer shows Lasher quickly growing in fast spurts and inevitably hunting Mayfair women.

In addition to returning cast members Daddario, Huston, Harry Hamlin, Tongayi Chirisa, and Alyssa Jirrels, Mayfair Witches season 2 is also introducing a few newcomers played by Thora Birch, Ted Levine, and Ben Feldman.

Mayfair Witches is the second series in AMC's Anne Rice Universe, alongside the acclaimed series Interview with the Vampire, which was recently renewed for a third outing. The network is also working on a third show based on the secret order the Talamasca, initially introduced in the first season of Mayfair Witches.

The series is based on Anne Rice's supernatural horror book trilogy Lives of the Mayfair Witches, featuring the novels The Witching Hour, Lasher, and Taltos. Some characters from this series crossover into Rice's Vampire Chronicles series, though that hasn't happened in an official capacity on the AMC shows yet.

During the finale of Mayfair Witches season 1, Rowan gives birth to Lasher after Talamasca agent Ciprien Grieve impregnates her. The two had previously started a romantic relationship. But though Ciprien is technically the bio-dad, he's not really. It's kind of confusing but Lasher just uses the instance as a way to implant himself inside of Rowan's body as part of an ancient prophecy allowing him to make a physical return.

Mayfair Witches season 2 premieres on January 5 on AMC and AMC+.
