Well, Mike Flanagan fans, we officially have confirmation that the acclaimed filmmaker's Carrie series has been ordered by Prime Video. And the exciting news doesn't stop there! The project has made its first casting as well. Below, we dive into all the details of this highly anticipated adaptation, including the casting choice that’s got fans buzzing, and what we can expect from Flanagan’s fresh take on Stephen King's beloved novel.
The development of the series adaptation was first announced by Amazon MGM Studios in October 2024. Flanagan was confirmed as the showrunner and executive producer, with plans to write the scripts for the horror series. Intrepid Pictures’ Trevor Macy was also revealed to be an executive producer. While none of this has changed now that the show has been greenlit, we have learned that Flanagan will also be helming some of the episodes. Additionally, we've learned that there will be eight episodes in the first season.
Based on King's 1974 book of the same name, the Carrie series is described as a reimagining of the classic story and will be more of a modern take. It will center on outcast high schooler, Carrie White, who has lived a secluded life under the control of her overbearing mother. After the sudden death of her father, Carrie finds herself facing the struggles of high school life, dealing with bullying and the awakening of her mysterious telekinetic powers.
Recently, we learned that Summer H. Howell is in talks to portray the lead character, Carrie White. You might recognize her from her previous roles in the horror movies Curse of Chucky, Hunter Hunter and Time Cut. However, her casting has not been confirmed yet. On the other hand, we do know who will be portraying Carrie's nemesis, Sue Snell. It's none other than Resident Evil actress Siena Agudong.
Agudong is also known for previously starring in the TV shows Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn and No Good Nick. Her most recent project was starring in the Tubi romance film Sidelined: The QB and Me. Besides her casting, the only other new information revealed about the Carrie series is that filming will reportedly start sometime this summer in Vancouver.
Now that Carrie has been officially ordered, more information is sure to emerge as production ramps up. Don't worry! We'll make sure to share every new detail as it's available. All you need to do is stay tuned to 1428 Elm.
