Mr. Crocket ending, explained: Summer's wacky journey to save Major
By Mads Lennon
Spoilers ahead for Mr. Crocket
Imagine watching television with your kid when, suddenly, the subject of the show climbs through the screen and kidnaps them. Nightmare fuel. That's what happens in the new Hulu Original film Mr. Crocket, directed by Brandon Espy and based on the short film he made previously.
This movie is one of several released as part of this year's "Huluween" event, which kicked off at the start of the month on Hulu. Mr. Crocket is now streaming, so let's dive into that wild ending.
Through the television screen
Darren's mother, Rhonda, has become homeless since losing her son and husband to the menacing man in the television, but she's kept herself plenty busy creating a device that allows her to connect to Mr. Crocket's warped TV world. With her assistance, Summer and Eddie are able to pinpoint where he is and find a way inside so they can save the other children.
Eddie's real identity revealed
During the film's final act, Summer and Eddie manage to access Mr. Crocket's World, but he soon captures Summer and takes her captive. You might think Eddie will come to her rescue—until a twist reveals that Eddie is someone else entirely. Mr. Crocket tells a story to the children about one of the first boys he ever kidnapped, a child named Anthony.
Guess who Eddie is? Yep, he's Anthony all grown up. A child of abuse, Mr. Crocket was the only person to ever really love Anthony, so he's spent his entire life desperately trying to find him and get back to this world. The problem is, now that Anthony is all grown up and not a perfect child anymore, Mr. Crocket wants nothing to do with him. He throws him to one of his deranged teddy bears, which happily slaughters Anthony. RIP, I guess.
As for Summer, Mr. Crocket provides one opportunity for Major to choose between her and him. Still under the influence of Mr. Crocket, Major chooses to stay and Mr. Crocket starts one final game to take care of Summer for good. However, Summer manages to outwit Mr. Crocket with Major's help and they seemingly kill him and save all the kids.
Is Mr. Crocket really gone for good?
Not quite. The film tacks on a rather foreboding final scene. Since returning to normalcy, Major has been acting up at school, lashing out at other students and even getting violent. His teacher suggests that the new male figure in Major's life could be having a negative influence on him. Considering Summer isn't seeing anyone and her husband passed away, she immediately realizes that Mr. Crocket is still out there in some capacity.
The film cuts between Summer in the parent-teacher conference and Major at home, drawing a new family picture that includes a "dad" who looks suspiciously like Mr. Crocket. The last clip we see is of the house shaking and another flash of Mr. Crocket on the TV. It seems like he's still out there somewhere!
Mr. Crocket is now streaming on Hulu.
