Netflix is home to dozens of captivating crime thrillers, but some of their most popular titles fall under the "Nordic noir" category, including the latest hit series, The Glass Dome.
What is Nordic noir? This subgenre follows cases in Nordic countries like Finland, Denmark, and Sweden. Netflix has many, such as The Chestnut Man, Equinox, and Deadwind. In addition to location, these series tend to be marked by their dark and suspenseful nature. The crimes at the center of these stories can be gruesome, and the detectives assigned to the cases often struggle with personal traumas.
The Glass Dome is a gritty Swedish series consisting of six episodes. Since its debut last week, it has become quite popular on the streaming service. At the time of writing this article, it sits at the #6 spot on Netflix's overall Top 10 chart for shows.

Why watch The Glass Dome? What is it about?
Like many of these shows, The Glass Dome begins with a disappearance. Criminologist Lejla (Léonie Vincent) is called to assist when her friend's daughter vanishes. As the victim of child abduction, this case forces Lejla to confront her harrowing past. Johan Hedenberg and Johan Rheborg also star.
Lejla is still reeling from the death of her adopted mother when she is tasked with returning to her hometown and uncovering a mystery with eerie similarities to her past.
This series hails from writer Camilla Läckberg and directors Henrik Björn (Jordskott) and Lisa Farzaneh (Young Royals). The Glass Dome is an original story and not based on a novel, but Läckberg previously wrote the Fjällbacka crime series.
Crime thrillers are popular because they often demand binged in one sitting. Viewers want to know how the mystery will unravel and who the killer will be. They're perfect for horror fans and those who love psychological thrillers, as they will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.
The Glass Dome is a standout example of fine television and a gripping mystery. People on X have been raving about it since it was first released, with one user saying they "haven't stopped thinking about it" since watching and another praising it as "one of the best shows [they've] watched this year."
One element everyone seems to agree is excellent in this series is the plot twist, described as "sick," "twisted," and ultimately jaw-dropping. If that's what you're looking for in a crime series, then The Glass Dome is the perfect pick.
It helps that Läckberg already has a reputation for being an excellent crime writer, so fans of her book series will definitely want to bump this one to the top of their watchlists.
