Netflix's hit new Argentine sci-fi The Eternaut just scored a rare renewal from the streaming service. Even though the series quickly earned a spot in Netflix's weekly top 10 chart, you'd be forgiven for not watching it yet since it kind of came out of nowhere with little promotion. But now that we know another eight-episode season is on the way, it's an opportune time to join The Eternaut fandom!

The six-episode first season dropped on April 30 and the show earned great reviews from audiences and critics alike. According to Deadline, Netflix was keen to renew the show and the outlet chatted with the streamer's Latin American programming boss, Francisco 'Paco' Ramos, about what fans can expect in the sophomore season.

Despite the good renewal news, the downside is that season 2 is likely to be the second and final season of the series as they intend to wrap up the story in the next eight episodes.

"Season 2 is going to be very important. It's going to dig into a lot of sci-fi concepts that were just pointed out in Season 1, and they are going to be fully blown."

Producer Matías Mosteirin agreed with Ramos, adding that they plan to complete the story "in a beautiful way."

Series creator and director Bruno Stagnaro will return to helm the second season.

For those who may have missed out on The Eternaut during its debut week, the series is based on the popular graphic novel by Héctor Germán Oesterheld and Francisco Solano López. It is set in a post-apocalyptic Buenos Aires, a place hardly known for snowfall.

Yet when snow does indeed start falling one day, people become suspect, realizing too late that this toxic snowfall is deadly. Millions die in the flurries, but a group of survivors emerge to combat the threat that they learn is the result of an alien invasion.

Although the series is mostly a science fiction series, it contains plenty of scary and tense moments as the survivors fight for their lives and to combat the fatal snow surrounding them from all directions.

People on social media have been raving over the new show, calling it a must-watch for anyone who enjoys post-apocalyptic television. So if you're big into shows like The Walking Dead and The Last of Us, The Eternaut provides a unique and refreshing take on the subgenre.

The Eternaut is now streaming on Netflix.
