It's going to be a killer prom night in Shadyside. The next Fear Street movie has been confirmed to release in 2025 and alongside that announcement comes a bloody new poster for the film, titled Fear Street 1988: Prom Queen and based on R.L. Stine's book 1992 The Prom Queen.
The previous three films in Netflix's acclaimed slasher trilogy, Fear Street Part One: 1994, Fear Street Part Two: 1988, and Fear Street Part Three: 1666, all released throughout the month of July in 2021. While Prom Queen will feature a new cast of characters, the 1988 date means it will be set chronologically between the events of 1988 and 1994.
At the end of the third movie, a post-credits stinger showed an unknown figure snatching an ancient tome, suggesting that there's plenty more in store for this franchise. We're inching closer to finding out what that might be.
Netflix shared the poster on its X (formerly Twitter) account and it perfectly sets the stage for a chilling night. We see the silhouette of the high school in the background with the lightbox sign in front advertising the prom, of course the letters "DIE" in SHADYSIDE are highlighted red, and there's an ax propped up against the blood-splattered stand, indicating that the killer will likely be wielding said tool as a murder weapon.
This entry will be directed and co-written by Matt Palmer. As the title suggests, Prom Queen follows the lead-up to the legendary night in '88 with the school's most notorious it girls campaigning hard for the crown. But when they start disappearing one by one, it seems like it's all building to a truly bloody night that no one will soon forget.
The cast includes Suzanna Son, David Iacono, Ella Rubin, India Fowler, Ariana Greenblatt, Katherine Waterston, Lili Taylor, and Chris Klein.
No release date set yet but we do know it's coming out in 2025 at some point. I would hazard a guess that the film might drop in the summer like the trilogy did in 2021.
