Even though Yellowjackets season 2 might be over and The Last of Us season 2 is already deep into its story, there are still plenty of additional horror television shows to look forward to this year.
Notably, HBO is gearing up to release It: Welcome to Derry at some point, possibly this summer or fall. Then on Hulu and FX we've got Alien: Earth and Netflix still has two highly-anticipated seasons of Stranger Things and Wednesday to share with us all. So there's no shortage of television to get excited about in the coming months.

It: Welcome to Derry
- Release date TBA
Prepare for the return of Bill SkarsgÄrd as Pennywise with this It prequel series set for an HBO premiere later this year. Based on Stephen King's iconic horror novel of the same name, It: Welcome to Derry takes us back to the unlucky small town in Maine to uncover what happened when Pennywise came to town years before the movies It and It Chapter Two. The team behind the show is the same that made the 2017 and 2019 films, including director Andy Muschietti.
Muschietti previously revealed that the show is based on the book's interludes set in 1962, 1935, and 1908. Entertainment Weely previously confirmed that season 1 takes place in 1962 and centers around the horrific Black Spot Fire. If the show continues for additional seasons, we'll likely see how Pennywise influenced the Bradly Gang massacre and later the Kitchener Ironworks explosion.
Alien: Earth
- Coming this summer to Hulu and FX
The next entry into the long-running sci-fi horror franchise emerges this summer with its first-ever television series. Alien: Earth is set in 2120 years into the future and 30 years before the events of the original 1979 film, meaning it happened before the recent movie Alien: Romulus which took place between Alien and Aliens.
Alien: Earth is unique to the franchise because it features Xenomorphs coming to Earth for the first time. The most recent teaser, embedded above, shows that five unique species are crash-landing on our planet.

Marvel Zombies
- October 3 on Disney+
This animated series set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe is based on the alternate timeline introduced in What If...? that presents the idea of a Marvel Universe invaded by zombies. The series will continue the story started in the What If...? episode, following survivors fighting against former villains and heroes who have turned into members of the undead. Actors involved in the project include Awkwafina, Elizabeth Olsen, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Randall Park, Hailee Steinfeld, Iman Vellani, and more.

Dexter: Resurrection
- July 13 on Paramount+ with Showtime
Michael C. Hall returns as the avenging serial killer Dexter Morgan in this sequel series to Dexter: New Blood. Taking place a few weeks after the previous show, Dexter is on a mission to track down his missing son Harrison (Jack Alcott) in New York City. But it won't be easy for Dexter to avoid his former friend and co-worker Captain Angel Batista (David Zayas), who is now aware of Dexter's dark side.

Wednesdsay season 2
- Netflix, Part 1 on August 6 and Part 2 on September 3
Wednesday Addams returns this summer for a darker adventure in the show's second season. Jenna Ortega reprises her role as the titular character and has teased that season 2 will embrace its horror roots, including featuring an episode based entirely on slashers.
Netflix is splitting the season into two parts, the first to release in August, followed by the second half in September. Her return to Nevermore Academy will be anything but easy as she faces new mysteries, old enemies, and a more mature and enticing adventure.

Stranger Things season 5
- Release date TBA
The Wednesday hiatus might have been long, but it pales in comparison to how long we've all been waiting to see how the fifth and final season of Stranger Things is going to wrap up the beloved series. Netflix still hasn't shared a release date for Stranger Things season 5 yet, but it is expected to come out later this year, likely late fall or winter.
Details about the final season are light, but we know it will take place in Hawkins and return to many of the dynamics we loved from season 1. A lot of the final season is about bringing things full circle and it will emulate the first season in many ways.
