In early 2025, Neon released its second horror film of the year, The Monkey, and tons of people headed to the theaters to see it on the big screen. Coming from Osgood Perkins, the same creative behind the smash hit horror film Longlegs, people had high hopes that they were in for another unforgettable cinematic experience. But while the film managed to fare well at the box office, it wasn't received quite as warmly by audiences. Hopefully, Perkins' upcoming horror movie Keeper manages to offer viewers a truly chilling experience this time around. Neon just unveiled the first teaser trailer, and despite its minimal action, it’s surprisingly creepier than you’d expect.
Unlike Longlegs and The Monkey, which Perkins both wrote and directed, he only helmed Keeper. Nick Lepard (Dangerous Animals) wrote the screenplay. Tatiana Maslany, who starred as Lois Shelburn in The Monkey, works together again with Perkins in this new movie, playing the lead role of Liz. Starring opposite her is Rossif Sutherland as Malcolm. Sutherland is best known for starring in the horror film Orphan: First Kill and the crime drama series Murder in a Small Town.
In Keeper, Liz and Malcolm are a couple whose romantic getaway to a secluded cabin takes a dark turn when Malcolm abruptly leaves, leaving Liz alone to face a terrible, evil force. While the teaser trailer is really long, it’s deliberately minimalistic, relying on Maslany's disturbed face and the eerie music and noises in the background to creep you out without revealing much about the story.
Neon is set to release this horror film in theaters on Friday, Oct. 3, 2025, just in time for spooky season. Currently, no other horror movies are slated to hit theaters on this date, so you can put all your attention on this film when it comes out. As we near the theatrical release date, we can expect Neon to drop the official trailer. Once the indie production and distribution company releases it, we'll share it with you right away.
In other news, Perkins has inked a first-look deal with Neon. This means we can expect more chilling and innovative horror projects from the director under Neon’s banner in the future. We'll definitely make sure to keep you updated on all of his upcoming horror titles.
