Nicole Kidman is trading in the glass of milk for fields of multi-colored tulip and picturesque windmills. The Oscar-winning actress stars in the upcoming thriller film Holland from Fresh director Mimi Cave, streaming exclusively on Prime Video this March.

Fresh was a big hit for Hulu when it debuted in 2022. Starring Sebastian Stan and Daisy Edgar-Jones, Fresh starts out as a traditional romantic comedy and then slowly transforms into something far more sinister as it is revealed that the male lead is a cannibal. Cave received praise for her direction and many of us have been eager to see what she does next.

Holland is described as a "wildly unpredictable thriller" and the newly released trailer teases that nothing in this movie will be as expected. It centers on Kidman's character, a picture-perfect homemaker named Nancy Vandergroot. The Vandergroot family are beloved by their quaint and lovely town of Holland, Michigan—a charming town that looks like it popped out of a Dutch storybook.

Succession star Matthew Macfadyen co-stars as Nancy's husband, a seemingly genial man who is hiding a secret. When Nancy starts picking up on strange circumstances involving her husband, she becomes determined to follow the clues to wherever they might lead, even if it upends their lives completely. She is assisted by her colleague, played by Gael García Bernal. Belfast breakout Jude Hill plays Nancy's son.

Cave chatted with People Magazine about the movie, specifically highlighting Kidman's comedic timing and the movie's "offbeat humor." She was inspired by Kidman's performance in the 1995 black comedy To Die For in which Kidman played a woman desperate for fame.

"She plays this incredibly undertone comedic lead and I knew she had that in her, but maybe just hasn't, you know, been in a role [like that] in a while. She is so funny, so deeply funny," says the filmmaker.

Kidman has starred in many thrillers throughout her career, most notably movies like the aforementioned To Die For, Eyes Wide Shut, and The Killing of the Sacred Deer (a personal favorite). But in recent years, she's mostly been in dramas, like the award-winning Babygirl. As a longtime fan of the Australian actress, I look forward to seeing her in another darker role.
