One of A24’s top horror films leaves Netflix this week (watch it before it’s gone!)

Netflix has been rolling out plenty of great content this month, but with new additions also come inevitable departures. We've already seen one horror movie leave the streaming platform, which was the 2023 supernatural horror The Pope's Exorcist. Unfortunately, several more horror titles are set to leave Netflix before the month ends. However, there's one in particular that we're really going to miss.

It's the 2022 horror flick Pearl, starring Mia Goth. Not only is it arguably one of A24's best horror movies, some might even say it's the best film in Ti West's X trilogy. However, I'd have to respectfully disagree and say X takes the crown. That said, Pearl is a close second!

We knew this day would eventually come, as is the case with any licensed movie on Netflix. We just wished we had a little more time. After landing on Netflix back in August 2024, the horror film will be leaving the platform on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2025. This means the last day you'll be able to watch Pearl on Netflix is Feb. 15.

The film was released on the streaming platform on Aug. 16, 2024, which means that Netflix had a licensing deal with A24 (the movie's distributor) for exactly six months. While it's disappointing that the film will soon be leaving, there's always a chance it could return in the future. Netflix just needs to secure another licensing agreement with A24. Fingers crossed!

Pearl serves as the second movie in the X film series, which also includes the horror films X (2022) and MaXXXine (2024). As mentioned earlier, American filmmaker Ti West is behind the three movies. Pearl is a prequel to X, which means everything in the film happened before the events of X.

The story takes place in rural Texas during the year 1918. Goth stars as Pearl, a troubled young woman who desires to leave her boring life on the farm behind to become a movie star. However, her ambitions are thwarted by her overbearing mother, who forces her to take care of her sick father. Eventually, Pearl becomes consumed by her ambition, and she resorts to increasingly violent actions to achieve her goals. Yes, that includes murder.

Other talented actors such as David Corenswet, Tandi Wright, Matthew Sunderland, Emma Jenkins-Purro, Amelia Reid-Meredith, and Alistair Sewell join Goth in the cast.

Take a look at the official trailer below to get a glimpse of Pearl's dark and twisted journey toward achieving her dreams!

Pearl leaves Netflix this Sunday. Don't forget to watch it before it departs!
