Get ready to sink your teeth into a cinematic experience like no other! One of the best vampire movies ever made is set to arrive on Prime Video this November 2024, and it’s bound to leave you captivated, chilled, and craving more. We're talking about the horror-comedy flick Abigail. If you're looking for a wild and thrilling horror experience, this is the movie for you! It's set to land on Prime Video on Nov. 19, so make sure to save the date.

Abigail is arguably one of the best horror movies to come out in 2024. After premiering at the Overlook Film Festival in early April, it finally hit theaters just a little over a week later, and of course, people quickly bought tickets to see it. Both critics and viewers enjoyed this film, with many praising its standout performances, exciting and unique premise, and its perfect blend of horror and humor.

Honestly, this movie was bound to be enjoyable to watch from the start because you had amazingly talented creatives such as Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett directing and Stephen Shields and Guy Busick penning the script. Bettinelli-Olpin, Gillett, and Busick previously worked together on the box-office hits Ready or NotScream (2022) and Scream VI. While Abigail didn't quite pull in numbers like those movies, it definitely left its mark on viewers, with many having gone to watch it several more times, including me.

The plot centers on a group of criminals recruited by a shadowy fixer to kidnap the daughter of a powerful underworld figure. They are tasked with holding the 12-year-old ballerina hostage for one night in exchange for a $50 million ransom. But as the night unfolds, one by one, the captors are picked off, realizing with growing dread that they are trapped inside a secluded mansion with a far more dangerous child than they could ever have imagined. The young ballet-obsessed girl eventually reveals herself to be a vicious, centuries-old vampire and merciless killing machine who is out for blood.

Let's talk about the star-studded ensemble cast for a bit, which includes Melissa Barrera, Dan Stevens, Kathryn Newton, Will Catlett, Kevin Durand, Angus Cloud, Alisha Weir, and Giancarlo Esposito. Talk about excellent performances! I mean, the casting was chef's kiss.

I've watched most of the cast's previous work, so I knew they would give great performances. Who I was particularly impressed by was Alisha Weir, who played the role of the young ballerina vamp, Abigail. For her to be so young, she's already showing the world that she has what it takes to go far. I'm expecting to see more of her in the future! Hopefully, she'll be in more horror projects.

Universal Pictures (the film's distributor) released two official trailers for Abigail. Check them out below!

Wondering what exactly some critics had to say about this vampire flick? Here are a couple of critic reviews via Rotten Tomatoes:

"Tossing a malicious vampire kid among squabbling, not-exactly-un-dangerous humans is a recipe for a wickedly enjoyable thrill ride. One of the messiest vampire movies ever made, and winningly so."

Kim Newman

"With its clever premise, stellar cast, and over-the-top gore, "Abigail" is sure to satisfy horror fans craving a blood-soaked thrill ride. Possibly the most fun I've had with a horror film this year."

Linda Marric
