We're more than halfway through the year, and we've already seen tons of horror movies hit theaters. While some were clever and chilling, others went all out with gore and shock. With so many releases flooding the market, it’s easy to miss a few on the big screen. Luckily, most of these films eventually find their way to streaming platforms. In fact, one of the bloodiest and most talked-about films of 2025 is now gearing up to make its streaming debut on Hulu.

It's the Neon movie, The Monkey. On July 28, the streaming giant announced that the horror comedy would be making its way to the platform on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2025. This is almost six months after the movie's premiere in theaters. We already knew The Monkey would be arriving on Hulu after its theatrical run since Neon and Hulu have a multi-year licensing agreement, where all of Neon’s upcoming films will stream exclusively on Hulu following their time in theaters. We just didn't know when exactly.

Now that we have an official streaming release date, those who missed it in theaters or those eager to experience the madness all over again can mark their calendars. However, it's worth noting that the horror movie won't likely remain available on the streaming platform forever. This is because it's not a Hulu original. Although it will most likely stream on the platform for a while, it's best that you don't wait too long to watch it. A departure date has not been announced, but as with many licensed titles, it could leave the platform with little warning.

Stephen King fans will recognize the film's title right away, as The Monkey is based on one of his chilling short stories from the 1985 collection Skeleton Crew. The amazingly talented filmmaker Osgood Perkins wrote and directed the adaptation. Perkins is the same creative behind the smash hit Neon horror thriller Longlegs. He's also behind the upcoming horror flick Keeper. That said, expectations were sky-high for The Monkey.

But while critics largely praised the film, regular viewers’ reactions were more varied. The film currently has a 78% Tomatometer score and a 56% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Most viewers praised the horror flick for its inventive and over-the-top death scenes, but felt like the plot was predictable and that the movie struggled to balance its horror and comedy elements.

However, we recommend that you watch The Monkey yourself if you haven't already. Different people have different tastes. Who knows? You might yourself really enjoying this film.

The Monkey follows the twisted story of identical twin brothers whose lives are haunted by a cursed wind-up toy monkey that causes deadly accidents every time its cymbals clash. Theo James portrays the older versions of the twins, Hal and Bill Shelburn, while Christian Convery plays their younger selves. Tatiana Maslany, Colin O'Brien, Rohan Campbell, Sarah Levy, Adam Scott, Elijah Wood, and many others are also in the cast.
