Are you a fan of watching horror movies where women get revenge against someone who wronged them, whether that be a violent man, woman, or even society as a whole? Then you're probably a fan of the "good for her" subgenre, and Hulu is home to a great one: the movie Fresh starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Sebastian Stan.
This includes stories where the lead female characters get their hands dirty (and usually, very bloody) in the process of seeking vengeance, movies like Midsommar, Gone Girl, Ready or Not, Carrie, and You're Next. Moments where you see a woman brutally kill her attackers like in Coralie Fargeat's movie Revenge and returns covered in blood.
You can't help but feel a wicked sense of catharsis and want to say, "Good for her!" That's where the subgenre's namesake comes from, a quote by Lucille Bluth in Arrested Development.

Noa takes charge in Mimi Cave's Fresh
Stan plays Brendan, a butcher and connoisseur of human meat, in this film from Searchlight Pictures. Still, more than just indulging in cannibalism, Brendan kidnaps women and then personally chops off parts of their bodies to sell to his exclusive cannibalistic clientele.
The film follows Edgar-Jones's character, Noa, as she begins a romance with Brendan. At first, their relationship is the stuff of fairy tales, adorable and full of sweet moments, including a picture-perfect meet-cute. But obviously, the rug is eventually yanked out from beneath Noa when Brendan drugs her, and she wakes up in a cell alongside other victims.
I won't spoil what happens after that or how the movie ends, but trust me, seeing Noa finally get revenge against Brendan is up there among some of my favorite "good for her" moments.
Another aspect I love about Fresh, and any good film in this genre, is that Noa doesn't get her revenge alone. It's fun to see a final girl get the upper hand over her attacker, but it's even better when she gets to do it alongside her other friends or fellow victims. These women aren't damsels in distress and certainly don't need to wait for men to save them.
There have been plenty of horror movies featuring cannibalism. Still, Fresh is a fresh take on the terrifying concept of culinary enthusiasts who delight in prepping humans to be eaten.
Fresh was written by a female team, with Mimi Cave directing and Lauryn Kahn writing the script. Cave also directed the new thriller Holland starring Nicole Kidman, now on Prime Video.
