Horror movies are in huge demand as watchers of the genre are always eager to see something new or a new spin on an old trope. In 1996, Scream revolutionized the slasher genre, giving it a modern theme and rejuvenating the subgenre, making way for many other movies to do the same. The franchise currently consists of six films, with a seventh coming soon.

Sadly, none of the Scream movies are available to stream on Netflix, but we have an exciting list of movies along the same vein that will surely satisfy your need for blood and gore.

1 & 2. The Babysitter (2017) & The Babysitter: Killer Queen (2020)

The Babysitter and its sequel, The Babysitter: Killer Queen, are two titles that nicely fit into the modern slasher genre. Touted as teen black comedies, the movies are directed by McG, known for his feature directorial debut, Charlie's Angels. Fans of the first movie, which received positive reviews, will also enjoy the sequel, which received mixed reviews.

Both movies are gruesome, full of gore, and heavy on comedic elements, with lead Samara Weaving pulling off a standout role as Bee, the babysitter and secret cult member. Additional cast includes Judah Lewis, Hana Mae Lee, Robbie Amell, Bella Thorne, Hana Mae Lee, Andrew Bachelor, Emily Alyn Lind, Leslie Bibb, and Ken Marino.

3. Thanksgiving (2023)

The splatter king, Eli Roth's Thanksgiving is based on a story written by Roth and Roger Birnbaum, first featured as a fake trailer in the movie Grindhouse (2007). It is the third feature film created from the fictional trailers featured in the movie directed by Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino.

Thanksgiving tells of a small Massachusetts town that, each Thanksgiving, is terrorized by a killer who wears the mask of John Carver, a Pilgrim who came on the Mayflower voyage. The movie stars Patrick Dempsey, Addison Rae, Milo Manheim, Jalen Thomas Brooks, Nell Verlaque, Rick Hoffman, and Gina Gershon. In addition, it has been praised for its over-the-top comedy, outrageously gruesome gore, and the nostalgic feel of original slasher films.

4. There's Someone Inside Your House (2021)

There's Someone Inside Your House is a Netflix original slasher movie directed by Patrick Brice, who is also known for the found-footage films Creep and Creep 2. Starring Sydney Park, Théodore Pellerin, Asjha Cooper, Jesse LaTourette, and Diego Josef, the movie is based on Stephanie Perkins' same-titled novel.

The story is set in the fictional town of Osborne, Nebraska, and follows a senior transfer student who becomes the center of horrific murders that have terrorized the students in her high school. The movie has just the right mix of horror and drama, making it an appealing watch for horror fans.

5. The Rental (2020)

The Rental is a horror film that marks the directorial debut of Dave Franco from a story he wrote with Joe Swanberg and Mike Demski. After renting a house for a weekend getaway, two couples suspect they are being watched. Their dysfunctional relationships are then compounded when they are stalked by a homicidal maniac.

Dan Stevens, Alison Brie, Shelia Vand, Jeremy Allen White, and Toby Huss star in this horror flick. The movie does a great job of taking the story from a fun weekend away to severe issues between the couples to all-out horror fun.

6, 7 & 8. Fear Street trilogy (2021)

In 2021, Netflix released a trilogy of horror films based on the books by R.L. Stein. The Fear Street story is told in reverse order and follows the origins of an evil source that has terrorized the community for centuries. Each of the three parts is set in a different period of time and explores the horrors each era experiences due to the evil force.

Director Leigh Janiak was inspired by the slasher films Scream and Friday the 13th for parts 1 and 2, respectively, and The New World for the third part of the story. Each movie tells its own story but connects to the larger one. Several cast members appeared in more than one of the movies, including Kiana Madeira, Olivia Scott Welch, Benjamin Flores Jr., Ted Sutherland, Emily Rudd, Ashley Zukerman, Sadie Sink, Mya Hawke, and more.

All three films received positive reviews, and just because they are based on books geared toward a younger audience, the movies are excellent horror films that die-hard slasher fans can enjoy.

9. Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)

Set fifty years after the original, David Blue Garcia's Texas Chainsaw Massacre is the ninth installment of the franchise. This story is a standalone sequel, the first to follow original continuity since The Return of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1995).

Years after the 1973 killing spree by Leatherface, a group of young entrepreneurs descend on the town of Harlow, intent on selling the old buildings and creating a trendy, gentrified area. Sally Hardesty, the only survivor of the original killing spree, is a Texas Ranger who becomes involved when Leatherface begins to kill once again.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre debuted at No. 2 on Netflix's global charts. However, critic reviews were generally unfavorable. Still, the movie keeps up with the original, giving viewers all the blood and gore expected. The story does become modernized this time around, but that doesn't take away from the slasher feel of the film. Critics often forget that slasher films don't need to have a deep storyline to be entertaining.

10 & 11. Nobody Sleeps in the Woods Tonight (2020) & the 2021 sequel

The Polish slasher horror movie Nobody Sleeps in the Woods Tonight and its sequel are directed by Bartosz M. Kowalski and written by Kowalski, Jan Kwieciński, and Mirella Zaradkiewicz. The movie follows a group of teenagers who are dependent on technology and placed in a summer camp that requires them to go offline. You can guess where it goes next as it is set at summer camp.

The campers are then terrorized by a sinister force that "intends to take them offline forever." Keep in mind this isn't an American-style slasher but a Polish one that features this country's cultural issues, irony, and cliches. The second film continues the story but moves in a surprising direction towards the end.
