4 horror movies to watch on Shudder in July 2024 (and 3 to skip)

June is almost over, and we're looking forward to all the new releases on Shudder in July. Arcadian (2024)

Watch! Arcadian is a post-apocalyptic action horror film directed by Benjamin Brewer from a screenplay written by Michael Nilon. It stars Academy Award-winning actor Nicolas Cage as a father trying to survive a post-apocalyptic world with his twin teenage sons. After a pandemic has wiped out most of the human population, and ferocious creatures now lurk on the Earth, the father and his sons must do everything they can to stay alive. Cage plays the role of Paul, while Jaedan Martell and Maxwell Jenkins star alongside him as the twin sons, Joseph and Thomas.

Humane (2024)

Shudder release date: July 26, 2024

Watch! Humane is a horror thriller film helmed by Caitlin Cronenberg from a script written by Michael Sparaga. After a global environmental collapse forces humanity to shed 20% of its population, a family dinner erupts into chaos when a father informs his adult kids that he and his new wife have enlisted in a government depopulation program where they will be euthanized.

Things then take another left turn when the father's wife suddenly disappears. The program requires that two people be euthanized, and with the father's wife missing, the wealthy family is then forced to decide who left among them will take her place. Jay Baruchel, Emily Hampshire, Sebastian Chacon, Alanna Bale, Sirena Gulamgaus, Uni Park, Enrico Colantoni, and Peter Gallagher star in this horror flick.

Dr. Giggles (1992)

Shudder release date: July 1, 2024

Skip! Dr. Giggles is a horror comedy centering around an asylum escapee who comes to the town where his deranged mass-murderer father was killed and begins his own killing spree. The late Larry Drake stars in the leading role of Dr. Evan Rendell Jr./Dr. Giggles, while Holly Marie Combs, Cliff DeYoung, Glenn Quinn, Keith Diamond, Richard Bradford, and others join him in the cast.

The Shining (1980)

Shudder release date: July 1, 2024

Watch! The Shining is always a must-watch in my opinion! It follows an aspiring author and recovering alcoholic, who after taking on a job as a winter caretaker of an isolated resort, begins to exhibit erratic and violent behavior that leads to him terrorizing his family. 3x Academy winner Jack Nicholson stars in the leading role of Jack Torrance, an aspiring writer who is driven to madness and murder after taking on a job as a caretaker of a resort that has a dark past. Joining him in the cast are Shelley Duvall, Scatman Crothers, Danny Lloyd, and others.

Starry Eyes (2014)

Shudder release date: July 15, 2024

Skip! Starry Eyes is a psychological horror film following a young aspiring actress who is desperate to make it in Hollywood, even if it means selling her soul and going through a terrifying transformation, both mentally and physically. Alexandra Essoe, Amanda Fuller, Noah Segan, and many others star in this film.

Class of Nuke 'Em High (1986)

Shudder release date: July 8, 2024

Skip! Class of Nuke 'Em High is a sci-fi horror comedy film following students at a high school next to a nuclear power plant who begin to exhibit strange behaviors and develop grotesque physical transformations after buying contaminated drugs from a plant worker. The cast is made up of Janelle Brady, Gil Brenton, Robert Prichard, Pat Ryan, and others.

We Are Still Here (2015)

Shudder release date: July 8, 2024

Watch! We Are Still Here stars Andrew Sensenig and Barbara Crampton as a couple grieving the recent death of their adult son. In need of a fresh new start, the couple decides to relocate to a remote, old farmhouse in rural New England, not knowing that it has a dark history. Vengeful spirits reside in the old house, and every 30 years, they demand a human sacrifice.
