A Quiet Place: Day One making its way to Paramount+ this week!
By Mads Lennon
One of this year's highest-grossing horror movies is releasing on streaming this week! If you missed out on seeing A Quiet Place: Day One in theaters and you didn't want to pay an extra fee to rent or buy the film, you'll soon be able to watch it with your Paramount+ subscription. Beginning on Tuesday, August 27, subscribers can watch all three of the A Quiet Place films in order.
The latest entry in the popular franchise functions as a prequel to the 2018 film that started it all from director John Krasinski. Krasinski returned to write and direct the 2020 sequel before passing the reins to Pig director Michael Sarnoski for Day One. Sarnoski also wrote the script based on a story he came up with alongside Krasinski.
As the title suggests, Day One takes place on the first day of the alien invasion that would lead to the post-apocalyptic setting in A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place Part II. The 2024 movie stars Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o as a terminally ill woman named Sam who wants nothing more than to spend time with her adorable cat Frodo and to get a slice of pizza from Patsy's before she dies.
Sam connects with Eric (Joseph Quinn) and the two brave the perils of an alien-ridden city to get Sam her pizza and help Eric get off the island before he falls prey to these frightening invaders who hunt purely by sound.
Not only did Day One receive critical acclaim upon its release this past June, but the movie would gross over $261.1 million on its $67 million budget, making it one of the most successful horror films of 2024.
Part of the film's appeal is the tremendous performances from Nyong'o and Quinn, neither of whom are strangers to the horror genre. Nyong'o was also incredible in the 2019 Jordan Peele film Us, while Quinn had a break-out year in 2022 after starring in the fourth season of the Netflix horror sci-fi series Stranger Things.
For those in need of a Paramount+ subscription, you can try it free and then prices start as low as $7.99/month.
