A24 drops a new trailer for upcoming thriller Love Lies Bleeding

Love Lies Bleeding is the latest dark thriller from A24, and it was a big hit at Sundance Film Festival last month. Now A24 has released a new trailer for Love Lies Bleeding, which is set to hit theaters in March.

Love Lies Bleeding was written and directed by Rose Glass, who also wrote and directed 2019’s Saint Maud. It stars Kristen Stewart, Katy O’Brian, Ed Harris, Jena Malone, Dave Franco and Anna Baryshnikov, and looks to be a dark, gritty, bloody, action-packed film.

We all know Kristen Stewart, of course. Her work in films such as Crimes of the Future and Underwater has proven her horror/thriller chops. And Ed Harris is practically a legend, but Katy O’Brian has been getting a lot of notice for her role in Love Lies Bleeding.

O’Brian is an actress who has appeared in The Madalorian and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, but she is also a martial artist, making her the perfect choice to play Jackie.

Lou manages a gym in a remote New Mexican town in 1989. When she first spots bodybuilder Jackie (O’Brian), it’s love at first sight, but Lou’s life is already complicated. Her father Lou, Sr. (played by Harris) is basically a local crime lord, and her sister Beth (Malone) is regularly a victim of domestic abuse thanks to her husband JJ (Franco).

Jackie is just passing through town on her way to a bodybuilding championship in Vegas, but she ends up working for Lou, Sr. at his gun range. As she and Lou become romantically involved, “a shocking and gory act of violence” changes everything.

Rogerebert.com said in its review of Love Lies Bleeding that it “constantly swerves left when you expect it to swerve right, unpredictable in ways that can be invigorating.”

Count me in! Judging by the reviews and the trailer, Love Lies Bleeding will be able to stand alongside A24’s roster of great horror and thrillers, such as Hereditary, X, Pearl and The Witch.

Love Lies Bleeding releases in select theaters on March 8, before opening everywhere on March 15. You can watch the trailer below.
