Agatha All Along looks like it's going to be a fun ride for horror fans
By Mads Lennon
It really was Agatha All Along and we'll get the chance to catch up with one of Marvel's most iconic villains this September when the series makes its debut on Disney+.
On July 8, Marvel/Disney finally released the first teaser trailer for the upcoming series, a spinoff of the popular and Emmy-nominated 2021 show WandaVision. In Agatha All Along, we catch up with the formidable witch Agatha Harkness after she finally breaks free of Westview, having been trapped there by Wanda Maximoff at the end of WandaVision.
But while she's no longer held captive in Westview, Agatha is facing a world where she's powerless, and she'll do whatever it takes to fix that.
The teaser looks fantastic, like Marvel is gearing up to give us a real horror/dark comedy series set in the superhero universe. While WandaVision didn't go full horror, it certainly had its dark moments, as did its first follow-up, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Based on the teaser, we can expect plenty of terrifying moments mixed in with humor. We get our first look at the formidable Witches' Road, a plane of existence only sorcerers can access, and there are a few creepy monsters in the clips shown. There's also a hilarious bit at the end showing an exorcism or possession gone wrong. Using the song "Seven Devils" by Florence & The Machine.
Kathryn Hahn returns as the fan-favorite character, and she's joined by Aubrey Plaza, who previously played a different iconic villain character in the Marvel world on the excellent FX series Legion. Here, she's playing a character named Rio Vadal. WandaVision creator Jac Schaeffer is back for this one, too, which is exciting. She created Agatha All Along and served as showrunner and an executive producer.
The series also stars Joe Locke, Patti LuPone, Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, and Miles Gutierrez-Riley. We'll see the return of a few WandaVision characters, like Emma Caulfield Ford's Dottie Jones and Debra Jo Rupp as Wanda's neighbor Mrs. Hart.
Agatha All Along premieres on September 18 with two episodes. There will be nine episodes total in the first season.
