Many movies nowadays, especially horror flicks, are based on other works. They're typically adaptations of books. Netflix has several horror movies on its platform that are based on novels, and we decided to share a list below of some of the best ones. Who knows, maybe you haven't watched some of the films we're about to list. And if not, now is the time to add them to your watchlist!

Based on: An Exorcist Tells His Story and An Exorcist: More Stories by F. Gabriele Amorth

The Pope's Exorcist stars Russell Crowe as an exorcist who, while investigating the terrifying possession of a young boy in Spain, ends up uncovering a centuries-old conspiracy that the Vatican has tried its hardest to keep secret.

Based on: 1922 by Stephen King

1922 is set in rural Nebraska in 1922 and centers around a farmer named Wilfred "Wilf" James, who lives on a farm with his wife Arlette and their 14-year-old son Henry. Arlette wants to sell their farm and move to Omaha, while Wilf is determined to keep the land.

To prevent Arlette from selling, Wilf manipulates Henry into helping him carry out Arlette's murder. While they do succeed in killing Arlette and hiding her body, Wilf and Henry eventually start to face the consequences of their actions, with both of them spiraling into a dark path driven by guilt and fear.

Based on: Gerald's Game by Stephen King

Gerald's Game revolves around a married couple, Jessie and Gerald, who decide to drive out to a secluded lake house for a romantic getaway to work on their failing marriage. But things take a left turn on the trip when Gerald suffers a fatal heart attack while playing a bondage game with Jessie. Handcuffed to the bed with no way to free herself, Jessie must find a way to survive as she starts to lose her sanity while battling demons from her past.

Valley of the Dead, otherwise known as Malnazidos, is set in the latter period of the Spanish Civil War and follows two groups of sworn enemies who are forced to band together to survive during a zombie outbreak.

The story is set in a world where a mysterious entity has wiped out most of humanity. It's an entity that takes the form of a creature that, if seen by a person, causes the person to kill themselves. In search of safety, a woman and two young children attempt to venture through the woods and down a river, all while blindfolded. Will they make it safely, or will the evil entity get to them first?

Based on: Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark book series by Alvin Schwartz

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark follows a group of teenagers who stumble upon a haunted house and find a mysterious book containing terrifying stories that, if read, become all too real. Now, they must uncover the truth behind these scary stories and find a way to put a stop to them before they become victims in the stories themselves.
