Child's Play creator promises 'He'll be back' after Syfy cancels Chucky series
By Mads Lennon
It's a sad day for fans of the killer doll Chucky. Despite garnering a cult following and being beloved by critics, Syfy has opted not to renew the series for a fourth season, meaning that season 3 will be the last, per Variety.
Acting as a sequel to the seventh film in the Child's Play franchise, Cult of Chucky, the Chucky television show took the franchise in a new direction, and it was an absolute blast from start to finish. The team behind the series clearly dearly loved the show and cared deeply about the project. It helps that franchise creator Don Mancini returned to helm the show along with Brad Dourif as the iconic voice of the doll. Other fan-favorite characters like Tiffany Valentine (Jennifer Tilly) and Nica Pierce (Fiona Dourif) also returned, and viewers became attached to the new characters introduced by the show.
The third season of Chucky aired in two parts, the first of which ran during October 2023, and then part 2 kicked off this past April, ending with the now series finale "Final Destination," on May 1. It has been over four months, and, in that time, Variety reports that discussions had occurred regarding the series, with the potential to bring it back for a shortened final season or wrap up the storyline through a film. Unfortunately, that will no longer be happening, at least at Syfy.
But as anyone who has watched the Child's Play franchise knows, it's tough to kill Chucky. Mancini quoted one of the articles announcing the show's cancellation via his account on X (formerly Twitter), saying, "HE'LL BE BACK."
He later followed up with another tweet saying that Chucky will be back.
It would be harder to believe that Chucky wouldn't return than that he would simply because the Child's Play franchise has been ongoing since the 1990s and remains popular. At the very least, I'm sure we'll get another Child's Play movie at some point.

"“I’m heartbroken over the news that ‘Chucky’ won’t be coming back for a fourth season, but am so grateful for the killer three years we did have.I’d like to thank UCP/SYFY/Peacock/Eat the Cat, our awesome cast and Toronto-based crew (the best in the business), and finally, to our amazing fans, a big bloody hug. Your incredible #RenewChucky campaign really warmed Chucky’s cold heart. Chucky will return! He ALWAYS come back."
