The Scream franchise is well known for its iconic final girl, Sidney Prescott, and its genre-savvy humor, but the most iconic aspect of these movies to many is the Ghostface disguise itself. Donned by numerous characters over the years, Ghostface is one of the most well-known and beloved horror figures. If you are a fan, read on for some slasher recommendations based on your favorite Ghostface.

Spoilers for the Scream franchise ahead!

Also, the killers in the first three movies are listed separately compared to the latter three because in the first two movies the pairings had differing motives. In the third, it was a solo killer, whereas, in 4, 5, and 6, the pairings worked with a common goal in mind.

If your favorite ghostface is Billy Loomis

  • Friday the 13th Part 2 is a great choice. It marks the first appearance of adult Jason Voorhees, and his motive is revenge for what happened to his mother, which echoes Billy Loomis wanting revenge on Maureen Prescott and then spreading terror in the town of Woodsboro, just like Jason at Crytal Lake.
  • Happy Birthday to Me is a Canadian slasher where the past doesn't stay buried. Old grudges are alive and well, much like they were for Billy Loomis. This movie is known for its absolutely iconic ending and would be well worth a watch for that alone.

If your favorite Ghostface is Stu Macher

  • Bodies, Bodies, Bodies fits the bill of a fun, chaotic slasher film. A group of friends gathers in a house to party during bad weather, but things quickly go south when people start dying. There's a great sense of humor present throughout right up until the final scene.
  • Killer Party is a supernatural slasher that is also humorous and never takes itself overly seriously. It's minutes of unhinged fun with all hell breaking loose at a party when a vengeful spirit decides to take over and make everyone pay.

If your favorite Ghostface is Mickey Altieri

  • Stage Fright focuses on an escaped killer on the loose who, after donning a huge owl mask, terrorizes and kills a group of actors performing in a play about said killer's murders. It doesn't get much more meta than that. Cinematic kills and a beautiful Italian aesthetic can be found in this movie, too.
  • Slumber Party Massacre 2 is a sequel that surpasses its predecessor with how fun it is and its flair. Definitely worth checking out if the combination of menacing and funny that Mickey embodied appeals.

If your favorite Ghostface is Mrs.Loomis

  • The Burning is a good old-fashioned revenge slasher. The groundskeeper of a summer camp who was burned terribly in a prank gone awry is said to lurk on the grounds and be thirsty for revenge. Whether or not he is, you can find out by watching.
  • Friday the 13th was the blueprint for Mrs. Loomis. She's basically the Mrs. Voorhees of the Scream franchise, it being right in the script how the only reason she's doing any of it is because her son is dead.

If your favorite Ghostface is Roman Bridger

  • The Initiation focuses on a woman plagued by nightmares of memory in her past while she is stalked by a killer, mirroring the events happening to Sidney Prescott in the third installment of the franchise very well.
  • The House on Sorority Row might be a good fit for you if you enjoy a slasher with the feeling that absolutely nowhere is safe, which was prevalent in the last Scream movie and is also present in this evidenced by how and where kills take place.

If your favorite Ghostface duo is Jill and Charlie

  • Check out The Strangers, which follows people who are menaced by someone for no real reason while in the safety of their own homes. The atmosphere is tight, and there are plenty of shocking moments. Sound familiar?
  • You're Next deals with themes of family, betrayal, and greed, echoing those of Scream 4. Not to mention the very awkward and tense atmosphere that Scream 4 has throughout. the final girl of the movie also has shades of Sidney Prescott in that she is a fighter and refuses to give up. When things get tough, she gets tougher.

If your favorite Ghostface duo is Amber and Richie

  • Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon is one of the most meta slashers around. It's a movie about a movie, it's funny and the main character's heroes are Freddy and Jason. Oh, and did I mention it's set in a world where those are real killers? This movie will surely appeal if the motives in Scream 5 were fun for you.
  • In a similar vein to Leslie Vernon, New Nightmare is a meta-horror movie about horror and horror movies themselves. The motive in Scream 5 is all about movies and their love for them. If you just can't get enough of that, this movie, which posits Freddy Krueger as a fictional killer who crosses over into reality to terrorize people, will totally give you a good time.

If your favorite Ghostface team was Detective Bailey, Ethan, and Quinn

  • Slaughter High is another 80s slasher with a motive steeped in revenge. The killer's use of an old costume in the catalyst that led to the events occurring later down the line and the past coming back to haunt everyone involved aligns well with the mood and events of Scream 6.
  • I Know What You Did Last Summer is a slasher written by Kevin Williamson, who wrote the original Scream screenplay. Focusing on four friends who accidentally hit someone with a car and then decide to hide the evidence, the story takes place a year later when someone is back for revenge and isn't willing to let anyone get away with what they did the previous summer.
