Everything we know about A Quiet Place: Day One (including the release date)

The horror lineup for June 2024 might be short at the moment, but it still looks amazing! Horror flicks like The Watchers and A Quiet Place: Day One are set to be released in theaters this June. While we're excited to watch both of these horror titles, we're most looking forward to seeing A Quiet Place: Day One.

I mean, can you really blame us, though? It's part of a film series, and we've already watched the first two movies. We've been patiently waiting for another installment to be released since the second film came out. Now that we're nearing its release, we're doing everything we can to prepare.

A Quiet Place: Day One is an apocalyptic horror film written and directed by Michael Sarnoski. He wrote the script from a story that he co-wrote with John Krasinski. Sarnoski is best known for writing the screenplay and directing the drama film Pig, which stars Nicolas Cage. In addition, Platinum Dunes and Sunday Night Productions are co-producing the horror movie with Krasinski, Michael Bay, Andrew Form, and Brad Fuller signed on as producers. It's the third movie in the A Quiet Place film series, which also consists of A Quiet Place (2018) and A Quiet Place Part II (2021).

A Quiet Place: Day One was first announced back in November 2020 when Paramount Pictures revealed that a spin-off prequel set in the same world as A Quiet Place was in development. At the time, well-known filmmaker Jeff Nichols was announced to be writing the script and taking on directing duties, but he later dropped out of the film due to creative differences. In January 2022, Sarnoski took over writing and directing duties, and 10 months later, casting announcements were made.

Academy Award-winning actress Lupita Nyong'o and Stranger Things breakout star Joseph Quinn were the first two actors to be announced to be joining the cast in November 2022. They star in the movie as the two main leads. Nyong'o plays a character named Sam, while Quinn portrays a character named Eric. A couple of months later, Alex Wolff (Hereditary, Old) joined the cast in an undisclosed role. Filming would begin on Feb. 6, 2023, in London and run through to April 11, 2023. In March 2023, Djimon Hounsou was announced to have reprised his role from the second film in A Quiet Place: Day One. He plays the character, Henri.

The story is set way before the events of the first two films. It's set in New York City and takes place on the very first day that the blind extraterrestrial creatures with ultrasonic sound hearing landed on Earth and began wreaking havoc. We follow Sam (Lupita Nyong'o), a young woman who must find a way to flee the chaos and destruction the aliens have caused. While on her journey, she meets characters such as Eric (Joseph Quinn) and Henri (Djimon Hounsou), whom she teams up with to survive the alien invasion.

A Quiet Place: Day One theatrical release date

Get ready because the horror flick is set to hit theaters on Friday, June 28, 2024! Let's hope the theatrical release date remains the same because it was changed several times. The film was previously scheduled to be released on March 31, 2023, and then the date got pushed back to Sept. 22, 2023, and then March 8, 2024. Fingers crossed, a June 28 release is set in stone! You should be able to eventually purchase tickets to see the movie on websites such as Fandango as we get closer to its release.

Could A Quiet Place: Day One eventually stream somewhere?

Most likely! While this movie doesn't have a streaming home at the moment nor a streaming release date, it's expected to make its way to Paramount+ sometime after its theatrical release. That's what typically happens with Paramount Pictures movies. A digital release is also expected sometime after the theatrical release.
