The horror genre is usually seen as the underdog of all the movie genres, but in recent years, there has been much success for the horror world. Horror flicks like M3GAN, Smile, The Black Phone, X and Five Nights at Freddy's have come out and been box-office hits. But where are the horror movies that not only make you scream but laugh? We need films like those to make a comeback. Well, it looks like the film industry might've just answered our prayers because a Scary Movie reboot has just been announced to be in the works.

We've been in an era of reboots for quite some time now, so we're in no way surprised that we'll be getting a Scary Movie reboot soon. The highly successful Scary Movie film series dates all the way back to the 2000s, with the first film in the franchise coming out in 2000 to be exact. They are a bunch of comedy horror parody movies that spoof other horror titles. In previous Scary Movie films, popular horror movies like Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Halloween, Friday the 13th, The Exorcist, The Ring, etc. were parodied.

Anna Faris, Shawn Wayans, Marlon Wayans, Regina Hall, and many other well-known actors were cast in these hilariously funny films. In fact, Faris and Hall were pretty much the faces of the film franchise up until the fourth movie. They did not appear in the 2013 parody film Scary Movie 5.

There have been five films in the movie series so far, with the upcoming sixth film, aka the Scary Movie reboot, set to be released in theaters in 2025. Unfortunately, an official theatrical release date has not been revealed yet, but we probably won't see the movie come out until the summer of 2025 at the earliest. Why? Well, the cameras don't start rolling on the reboot until the fall of 2024. The filmmaking process won't likely finish up in time to make an early 2025 release. Maybe we could see the reboot sometime in the spring, but we're leaning more toward a summer release.

Keep in mind that this is just our release prediction. The reboot could come out earlier or later than what we predicted. We'll be sure to let you know the official release date once it's announced. But for now, a 2025 release has been confirmed.

Not much is known about the Scary Movie reboot as of yet. There aren't any casting or plot details, nor has the film been given an official title. Fingers crossed, Faris and Hall make a return this time around. They're truly comedy gold when they're on-screen together. When it comes to the plot, many new horror movies, including the ones we listed above, can be parodied. We can't wait to see which horror flicks are spoofed. M3GAN and Smile are our two top picks!

Besides the release year and filming start window, the only information known so far about the reboot is that Paramount Pictures will be distributing with Miramax fully financing it. Also, well-known producer Neil H. Moritz, who is known for producing several of the Fast and Furious films, has signed on to produce the reboot. Since Paramount is handling distribution, we most likely can expect the reboot to land on Paramount+ sometime after its theatrical release. A digital release is expected as well.

That's all we know about the Scary Movie reboot as of right now. Make sure to stay tuned to 1428 Elm for more news and coverage on the highly anticipated reboot!
