Death's design might remain a mystery, but its victims are now coming to light. THR just announced the cast for next year's Final Destination: Bloodlines. It's an exciting list, but don't get too attached, characters in this franchise tend not to make it through to the sequel!

While details about the story are being kept under wraps, we can look forward to seeing headlining performances from Brec Bassinger (Stargirl, 47 Meters Down: Uncaged), Teo Briones (Chucky) and Kaitlyn Santa Juana (The Friendship Game). The other players include Anna Lore (They/Them, Gotham Knights), Owen Patrick Joyner (Julie And The Phantoms), Richard Harmon (Margaux, The 100), Tinpo Lee (The Manor), Max Lloyd-Jones (War For The Planet Of The Apes) and Rya Kihlstedt (Deep Impact, Dexter). One interesting name not mentioned? Franchise stalwart and horror legend Tony Todd.

The cast will be working with directors Adam B. Stein and Zach Lipovksy who made the 2018 film Freaks together. Lipovksy also directed Leprechaun: Origins and Dead Rising: Watchtower.

The Final Destination films have roots going way back to the original film in 2000. To some, including this writer, it's one of the best horror franchises of this century thanks to its beautifully malleable format. In each film, the protagonist has a vision of a terrible accident. In the ensuing panic, they escape along with a group of others, and then the disaster still takes place. However, Death -- the series' antagonist -- does not appreciate when someone avoids the reaper. Death also just so happens to have an appreciation for Rube Goldberg-like natural progressions that lead to some of the most over-the-top gore gags around.

The sixth installment in the franchise has been in the works for a while. The last film, Final Destination 5, came out in 2011, so it's been sitting dormant for a while. Behind the scenes, though, many creatives have rotated in and out including the announcement in 2019 that Saw writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan who are not currently listed amongst the film's writers.
