First look at Bruce Campbell in Peacock horror series Hysteria!, premiering this October
By Mads Lennon
We're getting very close to fall, which means we'll start seeing a lot more schedules and horror teasers in the coming weeks as networks and streaming services prepare their seasonal scares. Peacock has two notable horror series coming out this year: the James Wan-produced Teacup and the genre-bending series Hysteria! starring Julie Bowen, Anna Camp, and Bruce Campbell.
You can watch the first teaser for Hysteria! below. The series premieres on Friday, October 18, on Peacock. USA Network will also air new episodes on Fridays, along with simulcasting the premiere alongside SYFY.
From writers and executive producers Matthew Scott Kane (Stitchers) and David A. Goodman (The Orville), Hysteria! is being described as a series about "generational fear" and " the thrills of being young, rebellious in spirit and aspirational at heart—and the horrors of growing up and realizing that the world you thought you knew has shifted beneath your feet."
Based on the synopsis and the statement from Kane and Goodman, Hysteria! is meant to bridge the generational divide and poke a little fun at the pains of growing up and trying to keep up with pop culture and societal change against a backdrop of the late 1980s amidst when the Satanic panic era was at its peak.
The series centers on a group of outcasts in a metal band who use the town's unease over the recent disappearance of a star quarterback to tap into the town's newfound occult obsession "by building a reputation as a Satanic metal band." But when more disappearances happen along with other eerie supernatural occurrences, the town starts to think the band might really have something to do with it, and a witch hunt ensues.
The plot sounds a little like what happened in the fourth season of Stranger Things, when the residents of Hawkins, Indiana, thought Eddie Munson was a deranged Satan-worshipping serial killer, except as a full-on series.
Hysteria! consists of eight, hour-long episodes and besides Camp, Bowen, and Campbell, the series also stars Emjay Anthony, Chiara Aurelia, Kezii Curtis, Nikki Hahn, Nolan North, Garret Dillahunt, Allison Scagliotti, and more.
