Train To Busan director Yeon Sang-ho hopes to open a few minds with his upcoming Netflix release, Parasyte: The Grey as you can see in the first trailer. The Korean series, part of an excellent trend of compelling horror right now, revolves around a young woman named Su-in who finds herself dealing with a world now infected by spores that make a person's head turn into something akin to the Demogorgon from Stranger Things.
Yeon rocketed to fame in the horror world with the release of his zombie flick Train To Busan in 2016. That same year also saw the debut of the animated prequel Seoul Station. He expanded the world even further in 2020 with Peninsula and there are plans for yet another installment as well as a U.S. remake called The Last Train To New York that was taken off the schedule in 2022. Yeon's current series Hellbound is also currently streaming on Netflix.
Parasyte: The Grey is based on the Japanese manga series written and drawn by Hitoshi Iwaaki which was originally published from 1990 through 1995. Parasyte was translated and brought over to the U.S. towards the end of the decade on into the next.
In Japan, the manga has already been translated into two live action films from Toho -- Parasyte: Part 1 and Parasyte: Part 2 -- as well as a 24-episode anime series called Parasyte -the maxim-. As of this writing, the anime can be watched on Hulu and Crunchyroll while the films can be rented and purchased digitally.
Parasyte: The Grey will debut on Netflix on April 5.
