Five Nights at Freddy's creator Scott Cawthon teases fans with new photos from the sequel
Things are moving right along on the highly anticipated Five Nights at Freddy's sequel. The last major update we had on this horror movie was the setting of the official theatrical release date, which is Dec. 5, 2025. Now, we have some behind-the-scenes photos to gawk at while we patiently wait for the sequel to come out.
On Aug. 8, in celebration of the Five Nights at Freddy's video game series reaching its 10-year anniversary, creator Scott Cawthon decided to share with fans new photos from Five Nights at Freddy's 2 via his X account.
The photos were taken at Jim Henson's Creature Shop, the special/visual effects company behind the first film and the sequel. He shared four photos of what looks to be work being done on some of the animatronics. One looks to be a picture of Freddy, while another one looks to be Bonnie. Can you guess the others?
After getting fans pumped up about Five Nights at Freddy's 2 with these behind-the-scene photos, Cawthon decided to come back to X later that day with an even bigger surprise for fans. But there was a twist!
While sharing a page from the official script for the sequel, Cawthon decided to make it into a little game for fans by also sharing three more pages. But here's the kicker... They're fake! He shared four pages in total, but only one is from the official Five Nights at Freddy's 2 screenplay. See if you can find out which page is the real one and which are the fakes down below!
To close out the 10-year anniversary, Cawthon came back to X one last time to express his gratitude for all the fans' support. He said, "Thank you to all of the fans for making this an amazing ten years, and thank you for being a part of the anniversary today. The outpouring of love for Freddy and the gang has been really heartwarming to see. It makes everything worthwhile!"
Plot details and casting details for Five Nights at Freddy's 2 are being kept secret at the moment. However, we do know that Emma Tammi, who directed the first film, will be back to direct the sequel. Although not confirmed, Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, and Matthew Lillard are all expected to reprise their roles as well.
In fact, it looks like Lillard will be in the sequel based on a recent interview he did on the JayBee & Milly YouTube channel. During the interview, Lillard mentioned that he'll be filming the sequel in October. I don't know about you, but that sounds like confirmation that we'll see him return.
