Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga: How gory and violent is the R-rated movie?
One of the best theatrical releases of May 2024 would have to be Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. It's now in theaters, and tons of people have gone to see it. If you haven't seen it yet and are looking forward to doing so soon, then we must share with you a little about what you can expect. That way, you're fully prepared.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is post-apocalyptic action movie helmed by George Miller from a screenplay he co-wrote with Nico Lathouris. It serves as the fifth film in the Mad Max franchise and is a prequel and spinoff to Mad Max: Fury Road.
It tells the origin story of Imperator Furiosa. We learn how she became the fierce warrior we know her as in Mad Max: Fury Road. The story begins with a young Furiosa who is kidnapped from the Green Place of Many Mothers and then is held captive by Warlord Dementus, leader of the Biker Horde. After watching Dementus brutally execute her mother, Furiosa vows to avenge her death. She's also determined to find her way back home. But she soon finds herself facing the harsh realities of The Wasteland, with there being many trials and tribulations she must overcome.
Golden Globe Award-winning actress Anya Taylor-Joy stars as an adult Furiosa, while Alyla Browne stars as the younger version. Joining them in the cast are Chris Hemsworth (Dementus), Tom Burke (Praetorian Jack), Lachy Hulme (Immortan Joe), Angus Sampson (The Organic Mechanic), and many others.
The action film was given an R maturity rating for sequences of strong violence and grisly images. Seeing as though this is an action flick, it makes sense why there would be a lot of violence. For example, there's a scene of a man being tortured by being dragged on the ground by a motorcycle as a pack of hungry dogs attack and eat him alive. There's another scene showing a man being tortured by being constantly beaten in the head.
There are also tons of scenes showing different warriors fighting each other to the death. We see characters dying from explosions and car crashes, and characters shot with guns and stabbed with arrows. A man's nipples are ripped off in one scene, and in another scene, a man's body is dismembered. However, we don't actually see the man's limbs being torn off.
Now, when it comes to grisly images, there are shots of torn-off limbs, diseased flesh, and a slit throat. However, we wouldn't necessarily say this film is gory. Most of it is implied. While there is some blood shown, it's not over the top, and there aren't any lingering shots. We'd say this film is more violent than it is gory.
Is Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga a movie you can watch with kids? Absolutely not! You might want to leave them at home. However, it should be okay for kids 17 years old or older. It's up to you, though.
