Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire will reportedly be released digitally in the US this May
Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters! The latest installment in the Ghostbusters franchise, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, is still currently showing in theaters, but it will reportedly be released on digital in the U.S. very soon, May 7, specifically! So, to all the people who would rather watch the movie in the comfort of their homes, the time to do so is almost here!
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is a supernatural comedy film directed by Gil Kenan from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jason Reitman. It serves as a sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife and is the fifth movie in the franchise. Taking place three years after the events of Afterlife, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire sees Ghostbusters new and old band together to save the world from a second Ice Age.
Paul Rudd (Gary Grooberson), Carrie Coon (Callie Spengler), Finn Wolfhard (Trevor Spengler), Mckenna Grace (Phoebe Spengler), Celeste O'Connor (Lucky Domingo), and Logan Kim (Podcast) reprise their roles from Afterlife in the sequel. Actors from the earlier Ghostbusters movies, such as Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and William Atherton, also return to play their characters in the sequel.
How to watch Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire
So, when exactly will Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire have a digital release? Well, according to Bloody Disgusting, the supernatural film will reportedly be released digitally on Tuesday, May 7, 2024. As of May 3, you can pre-order the movie digitally through Amazon Video or Apple TV for $24.99 before taxes. In addition, the movie is also reported to have a DVD and Blu-ray release date set for sometime in June.
You can pre-order the film as a DVD or Blu-ray on Amazon right now, and the company will deliver it to you once it arrives. DVD Release Dates has the date set for June 18, but other outlets are reporting May 7, which appears to be the correct date.
When it comes to a streaming release in the U.S., Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire will be making its way to Netflix sometime after its theatrical run. This is because of a deal that Sony has with Netflix, where its theatrically released films head to the streaming platform after their theatrical runs.
Previous Sony releases have dropped on Netflix about four to six months after they were released in theaters. With this timeline, that means we could possibly see the supernatural film land on Netflix somewhere between July and September 2024. This is just a release prediction, though. We'll get back to you with the official streaming release date once it's announced.
For now, you'll have to head to the movie theater to see Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire or pre-order it digitally or as a DVD or Blu-ray.
