Hope you enjoy your sweet stuff mixed with savory because that's what the remaining bakers on Halloween Baking Championship were tasked with whipping this week!

The Thriller Challenge involved each baker getting assigned an "umami" flavor, which basically just means savory. They had to create u-mummy desserts, meaning the outside looked like a mummy, and the inside is packed with a unique flavor like aged parmesan or tomato paste. There's also a lot of mascarpone cheese featured in tonight's desserts. Spoilers ahead for the episode.

Here's what each baker cooked up for the first challenge.

  • Manny, Soy Sauce: Brown butter soy sauce caramel marbled cookie with sesame crunch topping
  • Theirry, Aged Parmesan: No-bake parmesan mascarpone cheesecake with caramelized pears
  • Hollie, Balsamic: Pistachio shortbread crust with strawberry balsamic jam as the filling
  • Aaron, Red Wine: Red wine cherry jam toaster pastry with mascarpone amaretto ice cream
  • Lillian, Red Miso: Red miso chocolate caramel apple tart
  • Joel, Tomato Paste: Sticky toffee tomato pudding with basil sherbert
  • Megan, Gochujang: Gochujang pecan tart with white chocolate cream

Thierry is crowned the winner of this week's thriller challenge because the judges were thoroughly impressed with his usage of the aged parmesan. He received the immunity potion, making him safe from elimination.

Then comes the big Killer Challenge. John Hanson instructs the bakers that they have to revive Skelly's old recipes by looking through his old, degraded recipe cards. Each one features a type of Halloween candy and a specific dessert element they have to incorporate into their finished product.

  • Hollie, Wafers in Milk Chocolate + Lamination: Puff pastry with wafers in milk chocolate with mascarpone filling
  • Aaron, Wafers in Milk Chocolate + Mousse: Matcha wafer with yuzu curd and smoked salt milk chocolate mousse
  • Lillian, Milk Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup + Crunch Layer: Dark cocoa and milk chocolate brownie with rolled oats and a caramel crunch
  • Thierry, Chocolate Almond Bar + Gelatin Element: White chocolate skull with coconut pastry cream and coconut dacquoise
  • Manny, Milk Chocolate Bar + Inlay Design: Milk chocolate Swiss roll with ancho chile and cinnamon-whipped ganache
  • Joel, Milk Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup + Marshmallow: Peanut butter no-bake cheesecake with milk chocolate praline crunch and vanilla sea salt marshmallow

This week's top two went to Joel and Aaron, though ultimately it was Aaron's dessert that blew the judges away.

Sadly, there must also be a bottom two and this time it's Megan and Hollie. Megan's dessert tasted burnt while one of Hollie's pastry layers was served raw. But it's Megan who gets sent home.

Next time, gooey green melted witch desserts!
