A recent study conducted by Montana Technological and Harvard University research suggests that aliens might already live among us and have been here all along.

The paper, by Harvard researchers Tim Lomas and Brendan Case; and MTU researcher Michael P. Masters, proposes a "cryptoterrestrial hypothesis" that helps explain increased public attention on Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP).

Lakes and volcanoes are known hotspots for alleged UFO sightings, and that could be because those areas are secret entry points allowing extraterrestrial beings to exit the earth or re-enter underground civilizations.

Apparently, aliens may have busy social lives, so they occasionally drop by Earth to visit friends. Do you think they have to deal with space traffic jams? The paper also claims that aliens could be in "nearby environs," such as the moon, or even living right next door to you, disguised as humans.

The Hill summarized the article concisely, addressing some specific theories. It's possible that the aliens on Earth are actually the leftover remnants of an ancient civilization, which makes me wonder if the researchers might have just been playing too much Mass Effect. There's also an idea that extraterrestrials on Earth could be time travelers or intelligent lifeforms that evolved independently of humans.

Heightened awareness of extraterrestrial studies has been on the rise since 2023 when former intelligence officer and alleged whistleblower David Grusch testified that the United States government actively keeps its UFO research a secret from the general public and created clandestine aerospace companies dedicated to "crash retrieval." Grusch is discussed in the newly released research paper, though it is noted that the validity of his claims is up for interpretation.

The crux of the paper is to discuss the cryptoterrestrial hypothesis, which is different from some of the more science-fiction-y theories people have come up with over the years. Instead of thinking aliens are time-traveling angels or interdimensional beings, this hypothesis suggests that they are already on Earth, either before or after humans, and have found ways to remain undetected.
