Home invaders and crazed killers: Everything coming to Arrow in June 2024
The thralls of summer is upon us, the sun is out and beating down over our heads, the steady drone of the bugs cut through the sizzle of afternoon heat, and where are you? Well, you could be curled up in the air conditioning watching some of Arrow's newest offerings. They aren't skimping on you either, making sure they match the fun of the sun to the thrills of the dark. Now is your reminder to get the summer started right with a bevy of offerings from your favorite streaming provider, Arrow.
Arrow continues to provide an outlet for indie filmmakers to show off some of their unique and barrier breaking shorts and this month is no exception. We kick things off on June 7th with a trio of shorts from up and coming director Anthony Sneed titled Stripper, Swipe, and Stuck.. All three have crisscrossed the international film circuit receiving praise and screams alike. Arrow doesn't stop here however, because on the 14th, they come back with a quartet of even more original indie shorts. Ranging across a wide array of themes and stories, these 4 shorts all bring something unique and thought-provoking to the table. Titles include Cut & Run, Death Walks on Nitrate, Umbilical Glue, and A Bit of Fun.
Then on June 21st, we are hopping in the time machine back to the 1980's with director Nico Mastorakis and a pair of his films. We start with The Time Traveller, which focuses on a more thoughtful and dramatic story of a widow of an astronaut and her young son who wander across a mysterious man with magical powers on a Greek beach. Then, we completely switch gears to Sky High, a wacky tale of three American jocks who are gifted a mysterious tape on vacation in Greece from a man who is fatally shot moments after handing it over to them. On the 28th, we turn to the comedy portion of Mastorakis' work when two more of his films drop. Starting with Terminal Exposure, a Hans Zimmer scored romp that follows a duo of beachgoing ladies who accidentally photograph a murder. Before closing out with Glitch!, a feature that follows two burglars who attempt to throw at a house party at a mansion only to be stopped by a powerful group of mobsters. These four wonderful films highlight the breadth of creative genius from Mastorakis and shows in multiple ways why he is as brilliant as he is.
As always, Arrow also brings the heat when it comes to their series. These selected groups of films range all across the board and we start at the top when we welcome the creative mind of Quarxx, director of recently released Pandemonium, to hand select some of his favorite films in Quarxx Selects. He has a flair for the creative and plans to channel that here stating, "As a filmmaker, I am constantly drawn to films that defy convention and take audiences on unexpected journeys. My favorite titles reflect my passion for unique genre cinema that pushes boundaries and explores the uncharted territories of storytelling. Each film on this list holds a special place in my heart for its distinctiveness, originality, and the way it challenges conventional norms.
Each film on this list represents a distinct facet of my cinematic sensibility, reflecting my love for bold, daring storytelling and my fascination with the limitless possibilities of the medium. These films have left an indelible mark on me as a filmmaker, inspiring me to push boundaries and explore new creative horizons in my own work." With titles such as The Iron Man and Tideland, you don't want to miss this whacky ride.
Moving right along to our next series of films on the 7th with Witch!, this collection is pretty self-explanatory. Tales of spells and charms, these films are all about black cats and cauldrons with stories like Elvira: Mistress of the Dark. Arrow also is highlighting the esteemed Chattanooga Film Festival when it shines a light on some of the unknown gems that it featured. This festival is an entirely volunteer-run non-profit festival that focuses on fun movies. The CFF have graciously selected some of their favorite selections from festivals' past and shared them with us. Support indie films by checking out Chattanooga Film Festival Selects and consuming titles such as Meat Friend and The Leech.
Arrow closes out the month on the 28th with a summer must: a body count. With their Slasher series, Arrow pulls back the curtain on stalkers, murderers, assassins and all of their helpless screaming victims. Running the gamut from nostalgic to brand new, this series has a little bit of it all with titles such as The Mutilator and Girls Night Out . Then they double down on the killing chaos and add a little psycho flair with their final series of the month Crazed Killers. This features the maddest, most unhinged lunatics that are out to chop victims up to the teensiest of pieces. Don't miss the finale of the month with titles such as The Wind and Doom Asylum.
